Yay or nay: paper bag trousers

I've back in my groove of making my own life difficult...

I had my eye on these Madewell pants forever and they finally went on sale enough to snag them. I realize I have to tuck with these, but do they work? Am I too thick in the midsection for this style? I have rolled them up here, as I would have to hem them to look like the model. They are really comfy but of course, a tough silhouette to pull off. Or are they?

honestly, i don't know i just don't know how they are supposed to look. they look really big on top, but is that how they are supposed to be?

I love those pants! Can you possilbly pull the waist up just a "tich" more? I'd just like to see what they look like that way.

okay, in the stock photo, they are kind of baggy at the top but then taper down the leg. yours seem baggy all over to me...:(

Una - now that I've seen the stock photo - I'd think you'd want to alter them so that they taper more at the ankle? Were you thinking you would do that?

I think they will not be so baggy when they are altered - right now they are bunching up over my ankle boots.

i don't think they're fitted enough through the knee though.

I like them better with them pulled up a bit higher (like 2nd pics) - but in addition to hemming them, I think they need to be altered through the legs (I can see what Mellllls is saying about needing be more fitted through the knees.) Can the legs be taken in?

I like the concept! Would prefer to see a low contrast belt.

I'm torn. I think I would like to see a more exaggerated paper-bag effect at the top. Maybe a higher waist too. I like the idea and color but it's not quite there for me.

Love those trousers but the fit is so hard!!!
Those trousers need heels just like the link Aida showed. Can you roll-up the hem and take a photo with heels?

Rute, I did post a picture with heels - I think I need to have them hemmed and then roll them up.

I quite like them but think a belt that is less contrast would look better as well. I think the looser leg is how they are supposed to look so they sort of poof on the legs a bit (again at a loss for the right word). I like the pic with the tie belt. I had a pair of pants like this in black suede many years ago when I was very slim and wore them to death.

I really like these and I love the color! Try Angie's suggestion with a lower contrast belt. This is a fab look for you.
