Yay or nay: Fiddling with lipstick

I don't know what's wrong with me but lately I have been craving all sorts of things I ordinarily hate, like pickles. Lipstick is the latest, although I won't be eating it.

The MAC guy liked this on me, and I was convinced in the store. On getting home though, I'm not so sure. I don't really understand color when it's sitting directly on my face, so I need some more knowledgeable eyes to guide me. It scared me in the tube because it was such a bright red, but it is nice and sheer so at least I don't feel like a drag queen. I wish I could get it more true to life in the pictures. It's a little desaturated. But my apartment lighting isn't the greatest.

i *always* take whatever makeup they put on me @ Mac and go look at it outside in natural lighting before deciding to buy. Their lighting can be awful in a lot of stores...

Sheerish reds are great and easy to wear. Using a lip brush rather than applying directly from the bullet can also help.

It is Aida! Good eye. I wouldn't wear it with the lipstick at the same time, though. One thing at a time.

Lately I need an escape and a pick-me-up, and since I can no longer buy clothes (and actually don't really want to), I feel like I'm transferring my clothes obsession to makeup. I didn't think I'd be the kind of person that wears makeup for fun, as opposed to just making me look a bit better, but it seems to be happening that way.

It's buildable/sheer so it doesn't have to be bright. I can just apply one coat.

I LOVE how the blue looks, it somehow packs a subtle punch (if that's possible). I'm a huge fan of those sheer red lip colors, I have one that's similar and it's very nice to be able to control the brightness of the end result. If you're into orange at all, that's another fun color to do in sheer

(By the way, the whole shebang looks great, make up, hair, glasses, brows.)

I like it a lot, Maya, and that includes your hair (I haven't seen close up pictures of it in your keeping-it-natural state for a long time.) I like how soft the lipstick color is.

I had never worn lipstick for anything more than very fancy occasions until the past year, and now I am really digging it.

Maya, you look so pretty. It is nice to see you! I agree with Aida: love that blue eyeliner. And your new Mac color: very flattering. And I agree with all: your hair is so attractive. I cannot believe you just wash and wear. So lucky!

Maya, what's the name of that color? I really like it! I find that reds turn pink on me because of my coloring, but MAC has lots of great options. I just bought one of the Viva Glam colors and love it - lighter per Auburn's suggestion than my usual. You need to post more photos of you, I love the glasses and the hair!

The color is Lady Bug. It's a warm, tomato red that is sheer and buildable. The only thing I knew going into this was that I hated matte lipstick and wanted my lips to look less corpse-like. That's not a lot of information to go on, so he tried a few things out. I actually liked most of them, to my surprise. Guess you can't know until you try.
