Yay or Nay: Faux Leather Jacket

Here's the deal: I love the look of these jackets, so I bought one. However, most of my wardrobe consists of longer tops and, as a result, my tops peek (okay, more than peek) out the bottom of the jackets.

So, I ask you: is this acceptable? Open? Closed? Neither? What's the secret to wearing the moto and bomber jackets with longer tops?

I don't think there really is a secret, other than getting a cropped jacket and wearing it over tops rather than a layering piece- the pictures show it over a cascading cardi and a boyfriend cardi. That's not the way I would wear it.

I'm not sure I would wear it either way myself. Opened works better than closed though. I bought a faux leather jacket too and I've been wondering if it's going to fit into my wardrobe as well. I'm pretty sure that if I wore a sweater I would wear my longer coats/jackets.

I like it open over the cascading cardi; I think you wear it well. How does it 'feel'? I love your grey boots!

I think it's fine to wear the cropped jacket over the longer tops, but I don't think I"m crazy about it over the cascading cardigan.

So, just wear it over one top?

Isn't it supposed to be a jacket that you wear outside and take it off inside, therefore one's outfit should be complete without it?

I'm confused.

I really like it over the cascading cardi and with the gray boots. The button/ sipped up look works I think, but I really like the casualness of the open cascadey styling. And I seriously lust over those boots.

If I personally were needing a jacket over the cascading cardi, I think I would pull out my long coat.

I think that is a problem we encounter when the jacket is an outside vs. inside jacket. If it is to be worn outside you could wear a cropped sweater or light jacket underneath with a top that is not buttoned but longer in front. Or you could wear just a top that stands on its own like a sweet pea top.

I think you might be wanting a more fitted moto-jacket. That one is very cute but the length and style of is an outside jacket. Many moto style jackets are worn more for fashion and will not be taken off. I always like to have a top on underneath that can stand on its own no matter what. I am probably confusing you more.

I love the first outfit with the jacket open. I'm not sure where you live, but I hardly ever zip up my jackets here in Seattle so I see no problem with this look from aesthetic or practical ends.

If you live in a very cold climate where buttoning/zipping is necessary and you're worried about the look, I'd go for a longer option.

I live in Wisconsin and my intention in buying this was to wear it as an outside jacket, not an inside one. Perhaps I should just go for a longer option ...

Without a regret, I'm packing up the jacket to send back to Macy's and will go for something longer. My money is better spent on a jacket that's more versatile for my lifestyle and climate! Whew! Thanks for helping me with this decision.

I think also that you will get more use from the trench, however I think the short jacket would be great in the spring/fall before it gets too cold up here in the Northland. I do like it over a top, rather than the cascading cardi- I think that should be worn alone, or under a longer coat...Im sad to hear you're returning the jacket- it looked so cute on you!

Loove that trench, and I think you made a great decision.

On the moto jacket, it can be worn over longer pieces, but ones that are clearly tops: knitted shirts, blouses, tunics, or lightweight sweaters /cardis; and not ones that are sort of a final layer themselves like the cascading cardi.

That trench was on my NAS best picks list! It is divine.

I do not prefer the look of the cascading cardigan under the cropped biker jacket, but I don't mind other types of longer tops peeking out from under it's hem.

For some reason I like the way that jacket looks over the cascading cardigan and I think the second photo is fine. However the trench you ordered looks like an even better option, so I hope it works out.
