Yay or Nay: AT Loft denim jacket Edited

and would like to know whether you think it's a keeper. I plan on wearing this with skirts and dresses for the most part. Please forgive me for posting this in my house "slippers." I assure you, I would not wear this ensemble in public. Thanks in advance!

Kelly that's a lovely jacket but I'm unable to decide if it will work with your skirts and dresses. My hunch is yes but i would need to see a pic in a skirt to be 100% sure.

I'm not sure that you shouldn't keep looking for a jacket that isn't quite as boxy. I get the feeling that the cropped boxy jackets, while still on trend, are not going to be as "it" as jackets that are a tad longer and more fitted. Just my gut feeling.. obviously I'm no authority on the comings and goings of trends.

I voted nay, but just as a "lets see what we can compare it to" nay. You look fab of course in anything you put on your darling little figure

LOL... and I thought nothing of your boots with the outfit. Just goes to show how used I have become to seeing this look on women.

I just ordered this jacket, too. I'm with QueenMum though - I think it's too boxy. Could you try a smaller size and still be comfortable? I want to like it, but it just seems too big. It might be the cut, or it might be the size; I can't tell which for sure. So unfortunately, I'm voting nay, and I suspect I'll be voting nay for myself too.

I am thinking it should either be a tad more cropped or a bit less boxy to fit over dresses. Can you adjust the tab waist in one more and see if that helps any? I agree, I would use an undecided button right now. If the tabs can nip the waist a bit I would likely vote yay. Otherwise, nay over dresses.

Oooh, this is interesting! I thought this one was the most fitted of all that I've tried. I haven't cut the tags--definitely will have to see what else is out there. Keep the yay's and nay's coming, please : )

Old Navy has a white denim jacket that runs in regular, petite and tall. It looks like it might be nipped a little more in the waist. I think this one is cute with the jeans, not as great with the dress as I expected.

Have you tried adjusting the button tabs at the side waist? It was a highlight on the item description....so....just perhaps that might cinch it a little?

I really like the fit of this jacket as is with the trousers, but not the dress. Perhaps bust out a skirt and blouse and see how that works?

Also, you can always take it to the tailor for a personalized nip just where you need it. I bet this particular crop jacket is comfy with the hint of stretch, yes?

ETA: I kept thinking about the jacket with the dress and came back to this thread: perhaps it isn't as appealing with THIS PARTICULAR dress since it does not showcase your tiny waist/darling little figure? Maybe you could belt the dress or change dresses to one that has a more tailored silhouette?

I have the same jacket, but got it CHEAP last season. The lady said they get them in every year. I love mine. Plan on wearing it on Friday

I like it a lot with pants, but feel it needs to be a little more cropped and fitted to wear with dresses so I had to vote nay.

EDIT: Just saw someone mention that it can be adjusted with the side button tabs, if they're not already cinched doing so may solve both the crop and fitted issues I see.

I like this in theory but the cut, particularly from the back, is just too boxy for me. I suspect there will be a number of white denim jackets in stores in the coming months. I would wait for something that skims your figure a bit more...or is a softer fabrication so that it doesn't stand out so stiffly from your form.

I voted, Yay. I don't think that this jacket is boxy in a bad way at all. I know how Kelly struggles to find jackets to fit her broad shoulder line. This is *still* a tailored look and it fits her shoulders and upper arms really well.

FWIW, I have this dilemma with white jackets too. The color just seems to highlight my broad shoulders. Some people don't mind highlighting that, but I don't like that look on me. I feel the same way about wearing straight sihouettes on my already curveless body.

Kelly I like the jacket on you. Try it with a more fitted dress (maybe empire style) or skirt and blouse. I am with Terri I got mine last year from Loft and enjoyed it allot.

I know how this would fit on me, Kelly - I think the collar sits too high on your neck and that's why it's looking boxy. I think you can find something more cropped or more fitted that will work better!

Woo hoo I just broke the tie--I voted yay. To be frank, I don't mind a bit o' boxy, especially in a jacket shape like this that was borrowed from the boys originally. Sometimes it's cute to wear something that isn't necessarily hugging every curve :). Just my two cents, of course!

Long day and don't dare vote because that requires analysis.

But FWIW, last year I got a Lucky Brand white denim jacket (with a lovely bit of spandex), and had the sleeves shortened to above my wrists (so when the cuffs are folded back it is 3/4 sleeves). I think mine was a bit more fitted.

If you are hesitant at all, you may want to check Lucky Brand . . .

I like it. I have a similar problem: if it fits my shoulder it is usually need to be taken in at the waist. Actually this is quite a simple alteration as it is not lined so you may consider that as well.

Wow! Thanks for all of the fabulous feedback! I'm still a little surprised at how boxy it looks. I could have sworn it was a hands down keeper before posting pics : ) I'm too tired right now, but I will check the tabs to see if they can be adjusted. Una brings up a good point about the collar--I hadn't noticed that and AJ really hit the nail on the head about the color highlighting my shoulders. In my head, I know that I should wear receding colors on my top half (but it doesn't stop me from wanting a white denim jacket.) Hbaber and Sveta make a good point about a simple alteration to the side seams. I could probably even manage that one myself.
@Kim: It's too early to start wearing this so I'll keep the tags on in case I run into anything better.
@Christine: I hope yours work out. It looks fab on Teri and Debbie. I think as long as you aren't filling out the shoulders to the extent that I do, it should work for you too!
@Modgrl: Thanks for the suggestion but I tried the ON version in petite and regular. In fact, I bought this jacket right after returning the ON ones. Unfortunately, those are extremely boxy--I didn't even bother posting pics.
@Angie, Jonesy, Book and Sveta: Thanks for the affirmation. I'm glad to have approval in case I keep it. It's still early in the season and I'm sure more cropped jackets will surface so I'll keep the tags on for a few more weeks : ) It is tempting to just be done though. I totally missed out on this last year.

I like the way it looks with the jeans from the front, but it seems like it is shorter on the back and somehow does not look ideal for your silhouette. Maybe try with a top that is closer in color to the jacket/lower contrast. If you do decide to return, maybe try to find a longer jacket? I also second the suggestion of trying it with a more fitted dress. Otherwise this shade of white is amazing on you.

You are an IT, right? I agree with others that it looks a little boxy. Maybe hold out for one that is more fitted and has a bit of stretch. Or, if you really love this one, you could try some pictures with an equally bright colored dress under. A bright, flared hem might help balance it out.

Kelly, I like it with the pants but to my eye, it's not as good with the dress. I'd love to see it fitted more through the waist. And guess what? With the new yay or nay feature, you can have the experience of shopping with 20 buddies in the room :D! Which just spreads the shopping fun, as I see it...
