I am generally not a leather jacket person. Though since being on YLF, I have been craving one. I LOVE the following :

what do you think ?

For those who vote YAY, could I wear it in the colder months too as a jacket ( not outwear ) ?

ANd how would I keep it clean ? Do you spray it with leather protectant ?

That jacket is gorgeous! I think you definitely could use it in the colder months under a coat. Yup, I would *definitely* use a leather protectant- sprays are generally the easiest...one time I forgot (ok, I was lazy) and it got ruined So take the time and I think that is a *great* piece for your wardrobe!

Isabel, I looked at a very similar jacket recently, and I think the perforated leather is aimed at Spring wear rather than winter. I did wonder what such heavy perforation would do to the structural integrity of the the leather when it's made into a jacket? I like it in boots, such as the Aquitalia ones that Angie has in the store.
I think a leather jacket would work brilliantly for you, but I would recommend one that isn't perforated for starters, FWIW. Interested to follow this thread and hear what the others have to say!

My only concern is whether the perforated leather is less warm than traditional leather jackets since you do mention wearing it for weather related reasons and not just for it's look.

It looks like a beautiful jacket with classic lines, but a current look. Have you tried it on? The fit makes ALL the difference!

I obsess a little over protecting leather, so I would leather treat it like a nice purse and try to wear a collar or scarf to protect the inside neck (I must be pretty grubby there!) and I also try to watch where I rest my cuffs. I get stressed paying leather cleaning prices :-\

These are all great points to consider. I will have to go see it in person. ( great point about the integrity of perforated leather on a coat.... )

Mo - In the cooler months I would wear it like a blazer under one of my top coats, if it didn't look weird.

I have a perforated leather jacket and Ive used it for about 3-4 years now and its held up as well as any other one...they are a slim leather usually, so its not as warm as a regular leather coat....I have a *fondness* for leather and suede coats- I have 6! lol....but you are planning to use it under a coat in the cold weather, right? Otherwise it would need to be a spring/fall item, I think...

You have such fab style! I think you really need to try it on in person.

I'm still learning all this stuff, so I'm probably completely wrong, but - that color could be tricky. I would also want to see how the texture looks in real life. (Sometimes I can wear texture, but sometimes it looks a bit fuddy-duddy on me - it really depends.)

I'd definitely go to the store and try it on!

I'd have to see this on, if it washes you out, you can always add a bright scarf to it. I like the overall style, classic and would wear it layered with a winter coat in colder months.

You are right, this really is the type of thing I need to go to the store and try on. I don't know what has gotten into me, I am so practical, too practical.

BM - I don't like wearing white shirts because of the upkeep, but here I am considering a light, LEAThER jacket ! I totally forgot about dry cleaning ( which I don't do for environmental reasons and I rarely - in emergencies - use bleach for the same reason ).You may know me better than me !

Lynne, you cracked me up because that is EXACLY the type of thing that I think about. I like my things to last a long time so I always worry about integrity.

So.... with all that in mind, I am going to get myself to a store, try it on and if I love it and you ladies love it, I guess I will have to find a green dry cleaner ! ( I am ready to toss the environment out the door if this is THE coat : 0 )

I was about to vote yay when I saw someone mention the perforations... that makes it tricky. If you want to put creamy leather conditioner on it, it may get stuck in all the holes. Btw my little dirty secret is that I've never dry cleaned my old leather jacket--just wipe it with leather cleaner and then conditioner. The lining can be spot cleaned at home with a towel soaked in soapy water (although I've never done it, so I'm not sure how annoying or time consuming it is to do it).
Anyway, the color and the style of the jacket is amazing though.

I vote yay - it's a colour that works well with most colours you are going to wear in terms of clothes and if you wear a scarf. I too have a craving for a leather jacket!

The jacket looks lovely, but I'm with Tara in that the color could be tricky. It's definitely something you'd need to try on. I don't have experience with perforated leather so couldn't speak to wearing it in colder months.
