WTW Tomorrow? - YouLookFab Forum

So....I have these crazy-fun friends. The kind who have Doctor Who parties and stage parties that feature midnight showings of the Hobbit followed by "authentic" Hobbit breakfast. Well, they've asked me to sing with them in church (not mine) tomorrow. Now, dressing for a classical recital is easy-peasy, but this is a Point of Grace (think pop girl group) song. And we're to wear cool, dark purple and black.

Two of us are in our 40s, the other two are each 27. Would you suggest:

1. This is my Eileen Fisher meets Georgia O'Keefe look, Bach and Handel (on the wall) don't seem impressed. Very comfy and dramatic, but not as "modern."

2. A more modern silhouette, but it reads more as grey. Is it too short for a worship service?

3. Tiered skirt that I would sub with a dark purple turtleneck (a duplicate of this red one). I love this skirt! This is definitely more classic.

I like #1 since this is a classical music recital - it's more formal than the other options, but I love the understated jewelry too.

#2 really appeals to me as it's a little more edgy, while still being entirely appropriate for the location. Because the piece is more "pop girl" as you've stated, this seems to suit the event more IMO. I also don't think it's too short for a service, especially when paired with the opaque tights.

P.S. Can I come and hang out with you and your fun friends???

Wear #2! It looks bright and modern (the dress reads more silver than grey on my monitor). I like the silver accents and tall shiny boots in #1, but the dress (skirt?) looks too long and somber.

What I remember of POG when my daughters followed them is how of-the-moment they dressed (in a chic not faddish way).

Your friends sound just fabulous! Beth Ann, first I have to say that you look stunning in purple. My fav is #2, very modern and flattering. Though you look great in all iterations!

#2 is in the lead, it seems. This is very helpful. Loving purple helps, but I'm feeling very indecisive tonight. Since I have to leave at 7:15am (singing? morning?) I need to have my choosing done tonight!

Yes, #2. You would have to shorten another three or four inches for me to say it is inappropriately short, esp. since you will be wearing tights. Break a leg & knock 'em dead!!

Count me as another vote for #2. The length of the dress is entirely appropriate but the outfit has a bit more edge than #1.

Like the edgy in #2 the best. Length is totally appropriate. Can't tell the color from the pic too well, but is it purple enough to be okay?

Another vote for #2! Do you have a cuff, maybe, to wear with it? The necklace sort of gets lost in the photo, though the effect might be different in real life, I expect. I love this outfit on you and think you will be a smash hit! I wish we could actually hear you sing....

Thistle: This is actually really deep purple, the photo is a little overexposed.

Suz: Cuff is a great idea, particularly with this length sleeve!

I love #2. I love the visual texture of the pattern and the drape on the cardigan. I don't think your dress is too short at all --- perhaps the dark tights make it more appropriate. I think you are absolutely right about #2 being more "modern". Love it.

#2 is my choice, though you look stunning in all of these outfits. What fun...as a fellow Whovian, I don't know why I never thought of a Dr Who party before! Have fun Point of Grace have some beautiful songs and I am sure you will do them proud.

I liked Suz's idea to add a cuff or something else a little bold (those details in the boots and belt and jewellery were making me lean towards #1 at first) and go with #2.

I do like the sound of your friends. I often host Second Breakfast get-togethers myself --- only because most of mine can't seem to get up in time for First Breakfast! :-p

Thanks, everyone. I wore #2 with a slightly darker, edgier necklace and a silver cuff. We were insanely well coordinated, which kind of works with this style of singing, and we did well ---- then we went out for elevensies!
