WTW For Our National Day Tomorrow?

We celebrate the creation of our constitution on May 17. It was signed in 1814, after more than 400 years as a Danish "colony". The day is celebrated with a children's parade, and people gather to have lunch together with traditional food. It is a day where most people dress up a lot and often we wear our traditional "bunad". I don't have one yet, but next year, I will! Mine will look different from all the ones in the example - there are incredibly many different ones, all with roots in local costume traditions.

I'm planning to wear my cobalt dress. I will probably be wearing the pumps when I'm out to see the parade, but which jacket? The sandals are new to me (thrifted), and have very high heels. It will be too cold for open toe outside, but I might wear them at home. We're only family tomorrow - the girls, DD's boyfriend and MIL are having lunch with us.

#1: With the white blazer (more formal)
#2: With the safari blazer (dressing it down a little)

I prefer the second jacket, the shape is super cute & very flattering with the dress.
Have fun at the parade! We have one of the largest Syttende Mai parades outside Norway, its quite fun.

Rebekah, thanks for the link! Wow, it's an impressive celebration. I was aware that there are a number of Syttende Mai traditions in the States, and I've been curious to know how similar to ours they actually are. I suppose some thing must have developed in different directions as new generations take over on both sides of the Atlantic.

#2 works better for me it seems more casual yet polished. #1 is more formal. The sandals are gorgeous! I love that pewter color.
I think it's the safari type jacket in #2 that suggests it's perfect for a parade. This way you'll be both stylish and comfortable.

Both versions are k-worthy to my eye, but I slightly prefer the proportions of #2 and also, since it will be cool, those shoes will do you better. But if you like the sandals for at home, they are so very pretty.

I think #2 wins out a tiny bit because I like looking relaxed for a holiday!! I love both of the blazers very much, though!

I love the second jacket with this dress, the first one is very nice also, just more formal looking. I'm curious about what traditional foods will be served. Sounds like so much fun.

I like them both. I prefer the bright white color with the cobalt just a bit compared to the warmer colors of the safari, but the more fitted style is fab too.

Thank you, everyone! I think the safari jacket is the better choice, too, since our activities really are on the less formal side. However, most people dress up to the nines today, so both jackets are within the dress code of the day

In general I agree with unfrumped that white looks really good with the cobalt.

How fun! I don't know why, but I like the second jacket the best with the dress. I think it has to do with the proportions. I also like the look with the light pumps best.

(OT) I always like reading your posts. I'm 1/4 Norwegian and visited Norway with my family several years ago. (My family hails from Bergen and there are 25 listings in the Bergen telephone book with my maiden name!) There are only about 25 of us here in the US!

I like the second option best. Have fun! I had the pleasure or participating in a celebration of 17 May years ago in Oslo. I even got to see the king!
