WTW - Neighborhood Meet Up - YouLookFab Forum

So, one of my neighbors is hosting a neighborhood meet and greet for those of us with kids. We are in a transitional neightborhood - some of us have little kids and are "younger" families, and a lot more are my mom's age. So, she wanted a way to get everyone who has kids together so we can all meet each other. Terrific idea, I think.

But, what do you wear to this?!? We will have DD with us the whole time, and there is a park right at the end of the block near the neighbor hosting. So, I know we will be at the park.

I want to look casual chic, the first saturday in June (so may be chilly or roasting hot this crazy spring!), without looking too dressed up or casual. And I have to be able to Toddler Wrangle.

Maybe just nice jeans and a tee with sandals if it is warm enough? I think a blazer is too much. My casual chic wardrobe is . . . well . . . that's just not where I have been focused.

Maybe I am overthinking this, but it will be the first time I meet almost anyone in our neighborhood even close to our age. I want to make a good impression, even with a sticky, messy toddler under one arm.

I think that sounds perfect. Or what about capri's, tee and a jean jacket? We live on a street that is "changing over", and it is WONDERFUL. Kids come home, dump their school bags and run out to play. We don't know exactly where they are half the time, but we know they are safe, and in a group. If we need them, we look for the pile of bikes and scooters :). Good for you!!

Elizabeth! That sounds so idyllic, really like how I grew up in the 70s. There are some families with young children on our street, I am hoping that I will feel safe enough for my kids to do that with the neighborhood kids when everyone is a few years older.

Thistle, I think jeans is the way to go. No to blazer. Yes to shirt with a cardigan if chilly out, or maybe one of your pretty wrap shirts? I know you typically wear them with skirts...have you ever tried the look with jeans, I can't recall.

Have fun! Bring a big thing of bubbles, that gets all the little ones playing together.

Sounds like it's time to climb in the closet and try out some possible combinations! I think a white or colored jean jacket might be a great topper if it's cooler.

I second the bubbles, and perhaps and activity bag so DD can play near you and be occupied.

Nice jeans, sandals or sassy sneaks and a nice knit wrap top or something. You could wear a cardigan if it is cooler. Another nay on the blazer unless it is a knit one--and looks more casual. I think you will make a great first impression. You have such a nice smile!

I'm going to be the naysayer on the bubbles idea. I hate bubbles and groan when anyone gives my kids bubbles. Without fail, one of them will spill the bubbles and there will be crying. I usually tell my kids to bring one or two small toys when we go to similar functions - they usually bring matchbox cars, I'm not sure what the girl equivalent is.

I like the bubbles idea!! If it spills, it spills, You'll be outside, there will be tears, but such is life.

Jeans (if not too hot) and one of your pretty wrap tops along with a sweater if required.

The only issue is what if it is super hot? For me, jeans are out on the really hot days.

Do you have a super casual skirt for that possibility? Or clams?
