WSIW: Friday night party - YouLookFab Forum

Hi All

I have been invited to a dear friend and neighbour's delayed 50th birthday party. It is being held in a private room at a local restaurant/pub/bar in walking distance from our house. The dress code is comfortable and ready to party.

It is late late Autumn but indoors. I expect to be standing up mostly. I was originally hoping to wear one of my new unworn dresses but they are too dressy (I think?)

I don't want to buy anything new - I can make my wardrobe work I know!

I will add some photos in of five looks I am considering.

I don't want to wear my cream cami with the black blazer as I wore something very similar to my party which has the same crowd.

Look One - floral blouse with jeans and white shoes (again could swap out footwear)

Look Two - light blazer, jeans, white shoes, polka dot camisole
(could swap in my new levis and possibly wear my brown low heel pumps)

Look Three - black floral blouse with black pants and some sort of shoes?

Look Four - pink and white shirtdress with white shoes

Look Five - black blazer, pleated dress and black and white shoes (again could swap footwear)

What are your thoughts?

I like your Carly blazer with the cropped jeans and your platform sneakers if they are comfy. Any top you want with it. Wearing the same top over again? Why not?! Wear a statement necklace. Done.

Thanks JAileen - all these are comfy!! I could wear the white cami with a different jacket and jewelry that is true - for my party I wore diamante which would not suit this one!!

I think I would pick #3 for this exact scenario. A little party but not too fancy. You know I love that blazer but it does not suit this exact occasion as I imagine it. But I am used to very informal gatherings.

Great options here! I think it depends on how “dressy” you want to be. The blazer looks very smart but I love 3 and 5 for a casual party. Dressed up but not too much. Have fun—any of these will be fantastic!

If you want to wear the shirt dress, how about popping it over a tank and then unbuttoning it a bit? That might give it a more casual vibe.

Shevia- I could be more casual, there will be a full range from some really stylish fashionable types, to jeans and sneakers. I want to look a bit party and not "work" but effectively the photos are mostly of "work" looks. I figure hair, jewelry and makeup can go a bit more party though.

Thanks Kelly - I think any of these would be fine too. The advantage of WIW photos is that I feel I have tried these out previously and evaluated them already!!

Cat2 - yes I could do that. This dress is one of my favourites but I do wonder if it feels a bit spring/summer. Although that could be because today is blustery and very autumnal!!

They are all great possibilities. I especially like #5. You can take off the blazer when the party heats up. To me, it's good occasion to wear a dress, and you've toned that one down for the occasion nicely with the sneakers.

Firecracker - I probably won't take the jacket off (the dress is a bit barer than I feel comfortable in right now.....) but who know of course once the party starts.....

#5 gets my vote - you look elegantly casual but also festive - I love the dress and sneaker combination. I like to err on the side of being 'dressed up' particularly for special occasions and think most dressy items can be 'styled down'. I would like to see you try to style down the David Pond dress you bought with sneakers and a casual topper. The main way I style down my dresses is to wear with either a leather or denim jacket and my footwear choices - so for me that is usually wearing a boot or sneaker.

My first choice is Look 3 but Look 5 is a close second. Then Look 2, with Looks 1 and 4 last-equal in my book for this particular event. But then I think my choices sort of go from most dressy to least in order of preference, which is of course my default.
So great that people can catch up on parties!

I will be the outlier and vote #1. I think you could add your jacket in #2. And I like it with the sneakers! Or try #1 with the black blazer in #5 and the bag in #3 or #5 to repeat the black in the jacket.

My vote is the pink dress- most festive!

3 and 5 look "..comfortable and ready to party" but I guess you could also consider the most appropriate outfit for the venue.

2 is a great can't miss outfit as well

I would definitely use the occasion to wear the black and white dress out! It looks fab and if ready to party means there may be dancing, you'll probably run hot anyways.

I think #3 would be nice with either black shoes (if you wanted to keep it sleek) or a pop of colour (if you wanted to make it fun - maybe yellow or pink?)

I like #5 but agree with Shevia that the blazer feels a bit formal - I think it's the combination of the dark colour with the double breasted military inspired buttons that makes it feel more work than play. But if it feels right for you, then go for it! Don't forget to have fun

Blazers do not say “comfy” or “ready to party” to me. I’d say 5 without the blazer (add a different topper if it’s chilly) or 3. I like 2 a lot, but maybe for a different occasion. Have fun!
