Would you go to a wedding reception solo?

My father and I got invited to wedding reception for some old family friends that we really have lost contact with.
My dad's ongoing dental work may prevent him from attending.
This is a wedding reception/party at a winery in SE Washington. I would either need to get a hotel or see if I can stay with a friend near there. It is also the weekend before Halloween so I'd miss a Halloween party.
It was important for my father, but now that he's a maybe....
What do you think?

I've attended weddings solo in the past, but usually when there will be at least a few people there that I know and can easily talk to. Will this wedding be a chance to reconnect with people you wish to see? Or would you rather go to the Halloween party since your dad can't go to the wedding?

I have, but it was generally for weddings of close personal friends. And I typically knew at least one or two other guests at the wedding that I could sit with and talk to. I probably would not want to go if I didn't know anyone else, especially in this case where it doesn't sound like you personally know the couple very well. But I am an introvert so this may not be true of everyone.

On the other hand, weddings are supposedly a great place to meet future significant others.... and I actually do know someone who met her future husband when they were both single at the same wedding.

I should say the actual wedding was held previously elsewhere. This is just the west coast party.

I would go and have gone to weddings and wedding receptions solo.

This one, I'd probably pass if my dad couldn't go with me.

(Whatever the two of you decide, make sure you give the hosts enough notice so you're not the dreaded no-shows!)

I would attend a wedding solo as long as (like Janet said) there were other people going that I already knew. But this wedding doesn't sound like the best use of your time, perhaps? Given that your dad can't go, and you've lost touch with them, and the other reasons you give you might want to pass and send a nice gift.

If you go with mixed feelings and don't have a good time, you might feel resentful of the time and trouble. Then again, you might go and meet someone amazing.

Tough call! Go with your gut.

Only as a bridesmaid - ie. will be too busy to really socialise. Otherwise, I believe you have to bring your own entertainment to receptions.

On the other hand, if they're really old important friends and you know a lot of the bridal party, I might go. It's not a marriage if people don't witness it and hold the bride and groom accountable! Hehe.

Before I was married I always went solo to weddings. I guess I've never thought of weddings as "date" occasions - in my mind, you'd only bring someone if you were engaged/married/living together/otherwise in a serious relationship.

Well I found a friend who I can crash with. Saving me a hotel. So I'll go and represent my family. Worst case scenario I get to try a new winery.

I hope you enjoy it. I have found it meaningful to re-kindle connections with long-standing family friends who knew my parents "when". My father is close to 90 and few are left.

It's not Noah's Ark! Single people make wedding parties fun for everyone. There's tonnes of movies about it!
