Would you buy these boyfriend jeans? I'm not sure...

Hello Everyone

Well, after today's post where I posted my "concept look" for a pair of boyfriend jeans and jacket combo and received your approval to go for it, I thought I'd go shopping and buy myself a pair.

To my surprise, despite trying my hardest, I could not find a single pair of boyfriend jeans. In any store. Not one! Nada!

I could find coloured skinnies, bootcuts and straight legs. I could find "butt-lifter", "tummy controllers" and flares.

But do you think I could find a boyfriend? HAH! I tell you, I can now understand why my single friends are saying that there is a "man drought" here in Australia, if jeans are anything to go by!

I have gone on-line out of desperation to see if any stores stock this particular style. I'll be honest with you all and say I don't really want to spend over around $70AUD - the climate in Brisbane means that I would only get to wear them for a short period of time each year before it gets too hot and humid.

I could only find one pair out of all my searches that didn't contain "rips" or some other funny feature that made me giggle.

The price is a bargain. The thing is..... are these really dreadful? Do they make you cringe? I realise I'd need to try them on, but frankly, time is precious and I don't want to waste my time trying to find a store that stocks my size if more knowledgeable people than me can tell just by looking at them that they are going to be a disaster.

I'd really love your advice on this. If I should avoid these, I guess I'll just have to wait for Australia to catch up with the Northern Hemisphere. I hope it doesn't take long!

Are these the ones? I would say give them a try. Do you like the wash? The legs don't look too wide which I think is a good thing. They are on sale for $20.00 and if you can return them I would give them a go. In fact I have a Crossroads at the shopping centre near my office so I am going to go and take a look at them tomorrow at lunch:) I will report back xxx (If these are not the right ones let me know and I will go back and post the right picture for you)

You made me laugh KatieP - seems to me the evidence is showing us there is a world-wide drought of boyfriends. Not sure about the styling of the jeans you've linked to - it's great that Deborah can check them out in person. I read a tip somewhere that another solution is to buy skinnies 2 sizes larger...if there is a man shortage sometimes we have to improvise! Good luck with your search!

I'm confused why people don't just buy actual men's jeans. There are a vast variety of styles - to suit one's particular image of a "boyfriend" - including a lot of hip styles: The Hipster Boyfriend.

Vildy, because mens jeans can be very off in fit. I have done the exercise quite a few times and it was disastrous. And the boys section is FAR too short if you are regular height. That said, in theory it should work! I thought exactly the same thing

Mens jeans have LONG crotches because, you know, they need extra room in that area. It can look really funny on a lass.They don't make 501's in small sizes any more either. Otherwise THOSE are the ones I would buy.

I have had luck with an almost 6 ft client in mens jeans. She filled them out really well.

Katie, they are worth a try! Size up if you need to.

KatiePea, I checked these out today for you. I liked them. The size 12 was a little too big for me but they didn't have a 10 for me to try. This style absolutely does not flatter my figure but you are taller and more slender so I would say they are worth a try. If they work I think they are a good buy for $20.00 (down from $50.00)

I did buy the high waisted pair below!! They have a nice slim leg but are not a skinny and are a dark wash. I am thinking in the warmer months these can be rolled and I can perhaps create my own version of the boyfriend look, or something else altogether

Deborah, thank you SO MUCH for going to all this effort for me. I truly appreciate it!

I'll head into Crossroads and have a look and a try on. I'm going away for a couple of days to the country with my boys (I am SO excited), so I'll have to cross my fingers that my local store has them in stock and in my size.

I hope you don't mind, but if the boyfriend "look" doesn't work on me, I may just copy you and try that style of jeans that you ended up buying. I really love the darker wash on them and agree that whilst I may not be able to get an actual "boyfriend" (which I'm sure will make my hubby happy), I can at least not have the issue of the bulky hem that is currently haunting me.

Make sure you post a WIW in them, so I can have a look!

You know what? I think I may just do that if my local store doesn't have them in stock. I'll go in store and try their jeans on to see roughly what size I am (weight gain has not been my friend lately) and then order online. It is worth it for the price.

Hi Katiepea and Deborah, I just spent a day in Melbourne city because my 2 DDs were meeting some 'Pokemon Forum Friends' and I wanted to make sure they were O.K.
So, I was 'forced' to entertain myself and of course I ended up shopping!
Anyway I found a 'Gap' store and they had 1/2 price Gap 1969 'Sexy Boyfriend Jeans' for $49 there. Just wanted to share and hope that your search is successful too.

These sound good Lyn, I'm going to google them now.
