Would you buy the same bag in a different color?

My black Michael Kors bag is my BFF for life. It is the most expensive bag I ever owned but it is timeless, a perfect fit for my frame, tough enough for my daily commute and matches 95% of my wardrobe. I want a cognac one for spring to lighten things up. Is it lame to buy the same bag in a different color?

YES !!!! I have done it twice in my life. Last year I bought THREE Brahmin bags, all the same style, but different colors. I do the same with clothes and shoes if it something that it useful, beautiful and loved. I don't do it often, but I know when I love something and will use it for a long time to come.

I definitely would also! Like Isabel, I bought the same style Brahmin bag in different colors- I have a rich,deep cognac for fall/winter and a light,buttery yellowed tan for spring/summer. They are incredibly durable, extremely beautiful (IMO) and have been my my 'main' bags for 2 years and many more to come, I hope!

I don't think I would, but I keep buying the bags from the same manufacturer which actually look very similar.

I personally wouldn't have the same bag in different colours, but I like variety. I can totally see how duplicating would work for some people though x

Yes, I have done this with a Stella McCartney bag I love. I bought it in red, and realized that I adored it so much that I wanted another, so I bought it in cream. Honestly, if it were still available in red, I would have gotten another in that color as well. I love it, and worry that one day it will wear out and I will be devastated. Having two extends the life for each of them.

I also did this a long time ago with a long Lamberson Truex wristlet. A department store was offering them as part of a promotion for only $35. I ended up purchasing three, figuring I would give two away as gifts. However, I ended up keeping them all. They are light blue suede, so after awhile one got dirty, but no harm was done, since I had two more to replace it with! I'm on my second now, and am happy to know that there is a third waiting if the second ever gets ruined.

No, but I do buy very similar styles in bags. I don't think I have ever duplicated a shoe, either, come to think of it. Just layering tops and pants.

I don't think I wold because I love having different style bags. That said I see nothing wrong with it though. If you love it and want to duplicate it go for it.

In my defense, the one is a solid colour and the other colour blocked so they feel extra different even though they are the same bag.

I am very picky when it comes to bags. It's very hard for me to commit. Once I buy one, I carry it nearly exclusively for the entire season though, so they have to be just right.
I do prefer different bags because I have so few.

I don't see anything wrong with buying 2 identical bags in different colors, but I wouldn't do it myself... I only have a few bags in my rotation and I like variety.

Like a good man, a good bag is sooo hard to find ... I've got summer and winter versions of two of my very favorite bags and say Go for It!

(Hmmm ... summer version of my good man ... something tall and tanned ... *and* with killer wardrobe I don't have to pick out ... {sigh} ...)

I have so many requirements for bags that if I found one I really liked, I would buy it in multiple colors for sure! Probably one in black and one in a fun bright color. The problem is that I don't really know if a bag is going to be ideal until I've used it for a while, and then it's no longer available or something like that.

I really like variety and would not do this, but that wouldn't be the right decision for everyone. Some people just know what they like!

Modgirl, I personally prefer variety, but I can see how this could work well for you - I have bought other items (shoes, cardis) in different colours when they were perfect......

Yep, I have the same Tignanello hobo in silver metallic and dark red. AND another smaller Tig shoulder bag in black and brown.

I believe in duplicates if it's something I absolutely LOVE.

Yes, I'm about to do this very thing. I'm so picky about bags that I rarely find any that meet my requirements. So I've decided to save myself some stress and double up on the bag that works. I don't care much about bags anyway, so it won't bother me. (I do have a few others for variety, though.) I say if you truly love it, go for it!

I voted nay because there are so many beautiful bags out there that I cannot believe you can't find a different one to spend your money on. (I have no problem with replicating shoes, though, since it's a matter of comfort).

Normally 'nay' as I'm pretty fickle with handbags - always ready for something new.

But if they are in dramatically different colors, they will feel completely different.

So then 'yeah'?

I haven't done it but voted yay. In the situation you describe it makes sense -- you have the bag and are convinced that it is fundamental to your wardrobe. I would probably not do it if it were a case of getting 2 different colors of the same bag at the same time (i.e., without having tested one first).

I wouldn't because I like variety and I love the hunt. I would have too much fun shopping for a completely new bag in a new design, in the wished-for color.

But I think you should go for it because you have found the perfect bag for you. Maybe if I were that in love with a bag I might do the same. I certainly do the same thing when it comes to jeans, t-shirts, bras, socks and panties.

I vote yes given how much you love it.

One thing that's confusing about your poll - in the title you ask if you should duplicate the bag, so that makes me think "yes" means "buy it". But then in your post you ask if it's lame to duplicate, which means a "yes" vote would mean "don't buy it". Anyway, I voted yes to mean buy it.

Thanks for the feedback everybody! This bag is definitely moving to the top of my list now! I'm also going to see if there's anything else in the collection that is similar so I don't have two of the same exact one.

@medusa, I know I realized it was confusing after I posted it but then a bunch of people had already voted so I decided to leave it.
