Would you buy a $260 white t-shirt?

If you could, would you? The Row is offering one for that price. I am fascinated by the marketing strategy that went into setting that price point. Yes, I do know it is probably Egyptian pima cotton or some wonderful fiber from Italy. It still remains a white tee shirt, but for $260, one could hardly call it basic.

Yes, April, I agree. I am thinking of giving EVERLANE tees a try. Has anyone had experience with their clothing, tees or otherwise?

I have one Everlane v-neck tee. I really like it for a semi-tuck with my rolled-up, BF style jeans, but on me it requires a cami beneath, so ii's not a great option when it's hot.

My chief complaint against tees these days is that they're either crew neck or cut too low. Come on, manufacturers. Great big spaces at the neckline really only work for teenagers with modest bustlines (read "models").

Yes, if they GUARANTEE that it will never stain, rip, shrink, or go out of style. For that price, it should also be guaranteed to make me look sexy and fab every time I put it on. In other words, if it was the last white tee shirt I'd need to buy!

I think that is why they can charge so much -- so many dream of the "perfect" white tee that we're always being told we MUST have in our wardrobe.

As Angie points out, tees are basically underwear. Maybe we are expecting a little bit much of them.

Then again, I would pay a fair bit for a good bra. Not $260, but a decent number.

Still, the bra probably makes me look good more consistently.

The drape (fluid fit) of the Everlane seems to be good from the photo, but the neckline might be an issue for me. But since you do both have something positive to say, it sounds like I should give one a whirl!

I would not buy it unless it was very special to me, such as they if spun the organic Egyptian cotton in the US and they custom made it for me. It is not going to happen.

If I were looking to spend money I'd have my Ts custom made, but I doubt that would run to $260 per.

Nope. White tees are seasonal for me.

I have paid more than that for outerwear, but then I expect it to last through lots of wearings over multiple years.

I like Joyce and Laurinda's comments. You could most certainly go custom at that price point and as the WSJ was commenting, you would have the PERFECT tee, because it would be fitted to you.

I balk at James Perse tee prices, so I'm sure as heck not going to spend hundreds on a tee. I tried on a bunch of basic solid tees at Marshall's yesterday and found a couple that will help me get through another steamy summer. They were under $20 each.

Nope. I have the Everlane U-neck tee and like it. It feels modern with dolman sleeves and a hi lo hemline. The white, while not see through, did show the outline of my bra more than I would like. The other colors were great though.

Although less fashion forward, I really like the Lands End tank. Bra straps don't show, thick material for good coverage and the right amount of scoop on the neckline. Actually, I'm in love with these tanks and I got them for a song on a recent promotion. Haven't tried the sleeved version. I change into these tanks every evening after work.

Not unless they come with a lifetime guarantee against getting holes or stains. I've found that price is no determinant of whether or not tees sprout those mysterious holes near the belly button.

Wouldn't pay even half that for a white tee. Some items just are not going to last that long in a wardrobe, and a white tee is one of them. We all have our own personal thresholds where pricing is concerned, but this level for me is for durables - outerwear, footwear (boots specifically), maybe, just maybe designer denim.

Never-not even if I won the lottery. there are so many things in life to spend money on-nice car, my home, travel, entertainment, training classes, agility and dock diving competition with my dogs is not cheap, and fashion and loving being able to dress well is only one part,,,,and it can be done without spending big bucks on clothing. I would rather have half a dozen t shirts for that amount, or three pairs of jeans.

The armholes are a little big and it is pretty long so I ordered petite and it was perfect! I'm 5'2 but usually don't order petites in things like t-shirts but I was glad I did on this one. Some reviews complained that the fabric was heavy but to me that is a plus. Love the fit and the colors! Check them out!

Probably not, but I'd hesitate to say never. Everyone has different price points and different ideas about what constitutes value. We've had this discussion on the forum many times because we all have different budgets and lifestyles.

If a white T was a fundamental player in my style, and the cut, drape, and fabric of this particular one was highly flattering on my body, then I wouldn't rule out the possibility. Yes, I could buy a whole bunch of perfectly good T's for the same price, but not everyone is looking for quantity. And for some of us, a perfectly fitting white T could be that elusive workhorse which pulls together several outfits. On the other hand, I'd hesitate spending a quarter of that sum on a pair of ripped/distressed jeans. As Angie would say, horses for courses.

Probably not. I might change my mind if I saw the tee in person and it blew my mind. But the Olsen twins have been doing this along time, selling $$$ tees online, and my reaction has always been *you've got to be kidding.*

I think white tees have to be pretty much one season of wear only if you want them to retain bright white and shape. I like the everlane u necks for comfort. I would like them better if they had some modal in them for drapiness.

I wouldn't...but then, I haven't bought a classic white tee in many years. They are not my thing. No matter how nice it might be, I cannot imagine being overjoyed at what I'd get for forking over that much money. The value just isn't there for me at all.

so, would you feel differently if this was called a blouse or a shirt? because if you really look at it, other than the shape, this is a blouse..... the fabric is not t-shirt cotton, is viscose and silk, there is detailing on the back.
i quess what i'm asking, does labeling something matter?
