Would this dress work for a 5:30 pm garden wedding?

I purchased this dress for a spring family wedding, but I have not cut the tags. I really like it, but a couple of my friends thought it looked too casual. Any thoughts? I am a size 12 in Black Halo world. The wedding will be at 5:30 in a garden -- the couple's friend is marrying them. It will not be a religious ceremony.

Thanks for any thoughts! Knowing that I'll be in lots of family photos is stirring up some fashion insecurities.

Have you been given any direction about what the wedding's dress code is?

Liz, the dress code is "cocktail."

Where? For example, wine country California is very different than New York City. I think it would work for the former but perhaps not for the later. Not that I know NYC.
Do you need a wrap to go with it? Perhaps choose shoes, bag, and jewelry that are on the dressy side.

Gee, I love it. I’d wear it with a little jacket and some blingy shoes. I wore a dress not unlike this to a wedding in Florida. You say it’s a family wedding? Your family? I’m thinking if it’s your family, you’d know if you have to wear silk or satin...

The only part of your description that gave me pause is “lots of family photos.” I think solids work better in photos, but again, it depends on the formality of the photos and your family. Otherwise, super cute dress, and it seems perfect for a garden wedding in New Orleans.

I love this dress for a garden party wedding. What shoes will you wear on the grass? Since you’re worried about the pix, wear a long topper in one of the cooler colors in the print and leave just a little narrow opening in front for the formal, posed shots. If it’s too hot for that, you could wear a thin solid-color scarf over your shoulders as a light wrap, letting the ends hang long for similar effect to the topper. For the spontaneous snapshots, your best accessory is a smile. Have fun!

It’s really pretty. I would just have a light wrap available for over your shoulders in case you need it for sun protection, warmth, or to feel more covered in the presence of any older stuffy relatives!

The dress is very pretty and I think would be wonderful for a garden party. I do think a solid color shawl or topper would be good too. The temps may not drop too much in th evening hours, but if they do, you’ll be glad you brought an extra layer along. What will you wear for shoes? Flats or wedges? Block heels might work, but spike heels will be hard to walk in if you are on a lawn or in a garden.

Love it! New Orleans, outside of a few formal restaurants, is anything goes, and the bright colors and floral will not be "too much." You can bring a shawl/wrap or shrug--you probably will not need it outdoors, but you will want something for indoors later, as the contrast between the outdoors and indoor a/c can be pretty extreme. New Orleans in spring is already pretty warm and humid compared to the rest of the country. [Native Louisianian here.]

love this...and i think it's perfect for a garden wedding...re the florals and pictures, when my sister got married a few years ago i wore a floral dress and it stood out, in a good way, from the sea of solids everyone wore...

Love a floral dress for a garden wedding. I think it's all about the accessories. Silver shoes, maybe a hat, why not?
