Not an age thing, but a style thing!
It could be improved with a belt and heels and an edgy jacket, but I would see it as too much work!

That model could wear an actual bedsheet and look fabulous. But even on her, that dress isn't that flattering. Advertised to throw over a bikini (meaning, they can't think of a real way to wear it). If I were choosing an after-swim dress, this would not be it.

Or I could tell you how I really feel about it!

Still, there is a role for a cool, loose summery maxi-dress. but I don't like this one.

Have to agree it's not even so great on her, and her job is to make clothes look great, right? That said, I don't think 40 is the issue - it's more stature and figure I'd think.

Those slits are so (so very) high *and* it's semi-sheer. I don't see how it could be styled by anyone unless at the beach.

It would look like Occupy Wall Street on just about anyone - the color, the bedraggledness, the slit could well be a rip. However, I'm going to be contrarian and say that perhaps only a woman past 40 could wear it. It would have to be someone tall, tan, muscular, ultra-sophisticated, with metallic accessories, hair up, full makeup. Contrasting to dress in every way - a kind of so-there statement. " *I* can look good in rags. Eat your heart out."

I think it could look cool with a belt, but there are so many cute Free People items you could find something nicer! As far as the age thing goes, as long as its something not too sexy that your child would feel embarrassed about, I don't see any age limit on clothes
