Would this be suitable for work?ETA: Pics added of me in top

I found this top on Anthro and was wondering whether people think it would be appropriate for work. Do you think that it is too low cut in the front and back? I teach piano to elementary school kids, in case that matters.

ETA: Since so many of you commented that the fit was crucial, I added a couple of pics of my wearing the top. Please excuse the bad quality. I have a $40 TracFone, lol. This is as good as it gets!

Ostensibly it looks ok to me, but I think it depends on how it actually fits you. On the model here, it looks too big to me, like it’s gonna fall off, which wouldn’t be ok in my book.

Yes I agree with Rachylou,the fit is crucial,you don’t want too much on display at work.

I agree that it depends on how it fits YOUR body. On the model it shows no cleavage, just chest and back skin; sort of the same look as a cami but with sleeves. If it shows off too much when bending over I would save for outside of work. It is pretty and feminine!

Cute top ! Really nice .
I think on the model it would be fine . I’m busty, so on me it would look a bit Victorian corset cleavage ! Which is a look I quite like , but not for work ... I think you would only know by trying !

Cute top. In general, a parent my kids’ music teachers would get an ‘artsy exemption’ I might not give their classroom teachers But appropriateness really depends how it fits you. It looks like it’s meant not to show cleavage in which case I think it’s fine for an hour of piano class. However it does read more as festival or picnic wear overall, so if you’re specifically looking for work wear I don’t know that this is perfect for that use.
Would love to see it on you just because I think it’s super cute!

I agree with the other comments — especially since you work in a more creative capacity than an office worker. But it seems a little bit flirty, which makes me pause. Fit is a critical component here. This looks like the kind of top that has constant visible bra strap issues.

You wear it MUCH better than the model, Gigi. Do the sit-down test, and if you don't gape - wear and enjoy. I see nothing inappropriate.

It really DOES fit you better than the model's photo. Any skin that shows is nothing inappropriate, just put a nice beaded necklace on to distract
people who might be overly judgy in your professional life?

It's adorable and it looks really great on you. While the style is actually conservative, and it's true that you're not showing anything obviously questionable like deep cleavage, it might not be your best choice for a regular lesson. It just seems like a lot of exposed skin for a professional setting, especially sitting next to a child on a piano bench.

I agree it looks like it fits you better than the model. It doesn't look inappropriate for your work; it's nothing that some garment tape can't handle if it feels like your bra is peeking out.

Thanks so much for the help, everyone! I haven't worked outside the home for several years, and I've kind of forgotten what's appropriate and what's not. I started developing my personal style when I was working at home, so now I am trying to add a work capsule...which is fun because I get to choose pieces that feel like "me" instead of the bland stuff I would have chosen before finding YLF. I'm always so grateful for this forum.

Hi Gigi...fellow piano teacher!

I'm private, all ages, and I do take care around my teenagers. I don't see anything wrong with that top or the fit. It looks great on you. I'm sure you wouldn't be wearing it at all if the shoulders felt restrictive (big no for me where piano is concerned), so go for it!

I love this top on you, it fits beautifully. I work in a conservative office and for any top where I am concerned that it could gape, wearing a camisole is an easy solution. I don't think it is necessary at all with this top, but just something to keep in mind if you have any tops that you are concerned about. It will be lots of fun to see you build your working wardrobe.
