would love opinions on these bags

I'm considering my one bag purchase for the year and would love to find a satchel. I'm a big Fossil fan and like both of these. I want to get a satchel with enough of a handle drop that it can go over my shoulder.

For size consideration, I'm 5'1" and about 115 so if either look too huge for me, please let me know.

I love both of these. I find double handled bags slip off my shoulders, even as an IT, depending on the coat or top. Or one of the handles slips and flops around. Have you experimented with this?

If I cross the straps one over the other and then put them on my shoulder, they'll stay up.

I'm about your height and weight, and I definitely think the first one is more in scale with our size. The horizontal size of the second one would probably overwhelm you. If you need/want to carry more, look for greater depth (front to back) at the bottom so the bag is more squarish than flattish if that makes sense.

Donna makes a good point. Both are great bags, but the proportions are going to be key. The first one might be more difficult to use cross-seasonally; it is a fun and lovely colour but reads spring/ summer to me. Whereas the other one might be useful year round.

Good point, Suz. I can see it helping to lightening things up in the winter but I could be wrong. Do others see the first bag as only for spring/summer? I would rather have one I can use most of the year. We don't have much of a summer around here.

I could see the blue bag working into a winter white ice queen kind of palette, but it would be harder if you tend toward the autumn colors spectrum in your heavier clothes. Some women gravitate toward the cooler raspberry, pink, baby blue kind of winter. For me, it would be a summer bag because my winter clothes start with black, cognac, tomato red and olive.

It's interesting to me that the one bag reads spring/summer to some when I don't see the colors as being all that different from each other. But I could be totally wrong on that.

I use a lot of dark colors in the winter, but I do that all year round. So I'm as likely to wear to wear white jeans in the winter as in the summer. But I wouldn't wear summer dresses in the summer obviously. Maybe it would work fine in the winter depending on what I'm wearing.

I love bag #1 shape but bag #2 color is more year-round for me. But that's more due to my color palette and kind of conventional color thinking, so YMMV.

If you wear a lot of black and white and charcoal and maybe cherry red (cool reds) then the light blue could work year-round. I would tend to want to capitalize on it somehow with other items in the outfit, for winter--scarf or other accessories--so that the light blue looks winter- intentional.
