hi all,
Hope you are all well and in good health! I haven't bought any pieces in January and February (so far), partly because of the impact of the new import taxes thanks to Brexit... but also because I couldn't see anything that would make my heart skip.

Today I stumbled across this top and skirt... could they work as an ensemble? I can see the skirt working with a white blouse (which I already have) and I think it could work with the burgundy top, at least this is what I am telling myself as I love its shape.

what do you think? too dark for spring and summer? not cohesive enough?

For me, it would depend on fabrication. It looks like the skirt is cotton and unlined, so primarily for warm summer wear. The long sleeves/ high collar of the blouse make it look more "wintery" in feeling, but in terms of colour and style it could be fun and pretty.

Suz, good point! the material of the top is silk, skirt is cotton.

I wear those colors all summer long. It sure looks like the shades would go together well, but of course you can’t know until you get them together. I like both those pieces. The top looks dressier to me than the skirt, but again, putting them together is the real way to find out.

and I just realised that I have a similar top in my holding zone as it was a bit tight... oh dear!!!!

The skirt is lovely! Very Summery, and a more Summery top would look better with it. The shade of burgundy is fine though. Feel free to wear that year round. As Suz said, it's more a fabric thing.

I had the same thoughts: good colour combination, the silk with cotton combo might look off IRL.

Also, re the two similar tops: you know what you like!

Both are very pretty but I feel that the skirt has a more summery vibe than the blouse.So Brexit is helping your clothing budget too huh!

On Brexit & budgets—I just “found” Pourmoi last fall. I like them, but urrrgh!

I don't think of color as a seasonal thing (I wear dark autumn colors year 'round), but fabric and shape would matter more to me.

Are you in the UK? L.K. Bennett has a similar skirt paired with the Saigon White Ruched Sleeve T. Something similar in navy would also work.

The visual density of the blouse is too much for the skirt I think.

But they are both lovely!

Agreeing with Suz's (and Angie's) comments - it's about the fabrics.
Skirt seems casual, top seems dressy.

But I don't think there is any color that "can't" be worn in the summer.

I find silk too hot in the dead of summer (at least our very hot summer) but the look is great.

I really like both pieces, especially the skirt.

Thanks All! Lots to think about... And the more I think on it, the less keen I am to purchase them. I guess it's best to put them on hold and see what to do next!

What Suz said. The style of the blouse says "Fall/Winter", and the high neck would probably feel uncomfortable in summer. The skirt exudes "Spring/Summer". Nice colour combo, however.

I did see this when you initially posted. I my honest opinion, no, they don't work together. And you've already got great suggestions above for some changes to make !

I’m another vote for these two pieces belonging to different seasons, but I’m really picky about that. I think the color of that top in a different style and fabrication could be nice.
