Need your expert advice please:)

Im not wearing this dress (see#2) as I just don't think it's particularly flattering.

So thinking this morning I could have it cut down into a skirt, hence I have cropped a pic (#1) to see how it would look as a skirt.

Pls excuse the leggings. I wouldn't wear them with the skirt. I am thinking of a black button down with it as a skirt or even a turtleneck.

What do you think? Worth it or should i just pass the dress on?

Thanks Shannon. I find a feel frumpy in this dress. I want it to look kind of cool and edgy with the polka dots but I end up looking like my mum!

I like the idea of making it into a skirt, I love the print and like your creative idea. Although, I'm not sure what it is you don't like about it as a dress. Have you tried wearing a cropped cardi or jacket over? I can't imagine that wouldn't look great.

I hear you Deborah - I feel that way about a few things too. If you're not feeling the love for it as a dress, then I definitely think it's worth turning into a skirt. You know I love black and white (as you do) and the differing sizes of polka dots give it edge. I say "go for it"! it would look stunning with a black button down and some red accessories - a look you do sooooo well.

I love the dress and don't think you look frumpy at all, but it's how you feel that matters. How does it look without the leggings?

I think it would work best as a skirt! The pattern is tough in a pic as it looks like an optical illusion, but it doesn't seem flattering in the bust. The optical illlusion is doing something there. . .

BUT remove the top (and the leggings) and this would be a fab skirt with all sorts of black tops and fun bright belts

I think this would make a fab skirt, Deborah! Could you just try putting the black blouse over it to see how it would look before you chop?

I do agree with you that I don't think it's terribly flattering as a dress. Something about the neckline and shoulders is just not doing it for me, so I totally support making it into a skirt!

I think I see what Sara sees - that perhaps the pattern gives the illusion that the dress is pulling across the bust? I think it would make a fabulous skirt! I like it with the leggings, actually. They give it an edgy feel. What a great idea.

I love this dress turned into a skirt and you'll have fun with it. I have relatively new experience with a black and white polka dot H&M skirt I bought. I asked for styling help and everyone came up with so many good ideas, from a white dress shirt, untucked and topped with a black V-neck to red blouses, denim shirts and a black dress shirt. I tried them all, including the capri leggings underneath, and all seemed to pass the YLF audience inspection. Get those scissors out and/or see your tailor.

Would make a FAB skirt, and I like it with the leggings (ooh add some booties and you're set.. at least on the bottom). If you're not wearing the dress, I think it's worth seeing if you can alter it.

I'm all for making it into a skirt *after* you've exhausted all styling possiblilties as a dress. have you tried a black turtle or a white button front under? Mum wouldn't have worn it that way! Or a black button front over top and belted? Or red? Or cobalt? If this all fails, chop away. I don't want to look like my Mother, either!

I really like picture #1 (as a skirt). It looks very flattering with the leggings and these shoes. Somehow, the dress does not look as flattering as the skirt version. I hope you are able to have it altered.

I like it as a dress, but oh, that would make a beautiful pencil skirt. I hope it will be less orphaned in a new configuration and will make you feel happy to wear it. If not, pass it on!

Great idea to make this into a skirt. I think it would be really cool/edgy - and you'd have FUN with it as opposed to feeling FRUMPY in the dress! Go for it!

Ah, Deborah! I'm preparing to post a variable black/white dot dress for K/T, too! I've thought of making mine into a skirt as well! Just be glad yours doesn't have the silhouette of a bridesmaid's dress! This is sophisticated as is, but I do like the proportion of the skirt better on you. Does it fill a hole? Would it make you feel fab to wear? These are the questions I answer before investing time and/or money into serious reworking.

BTW -- I can see what drew you to this dress in the first place!
