I do love a good work dress. Defined for me, as feeling smart and stylish, goes with A Good Jacket (3 in my wardrobe currently), doesn't crease and is suitable for the job that I aspire to have one day. I am an emotional dresser and I can definitely perform in a more polished way when I am dressed in a more polished way.

So here are my three favs currently - a Hugo Boss navy pin stripe, fab fit, looks super with OTK boots; a new DAKS sale purchase which is cute and then a recently purchased LK Bennett dress. So that is three days of the week done.

The next dress I am thinking of is this one. Max Mara, it is quite a different price bracket (stretching but not prohibitive) from before, and may be a little severe looking. I would be grateful for your thoughts.

Then, here is a prohibitively expensive handbag that I love from Bottega Venetta.

I can imagine how lovely you look in these dresses - all classic work dresses and each different from the others. As for the Max Mara, can you snap a picture of yourself in it. I have a Max Mara velvet jacket that is now 12 years old, still in excellent condition. Max Mara comes at a higher price point, but the quality is there on its tailored classics.

I also love the prohibitively expensive bag - but the YELLOW COAT is just divine. The thing with a classic bag is you should and will have it forever. I have one forever bag and when I want to feel amazing, it does do its magic. Consider yourself enabled my me.

Mmm,NICE dresses!I particularly like the Navy one.As for the Maxmara,I'm agreeing with others it would be nice to see it on before giving a verdict but I like it in principle.

Yes to all of them! I think the MaxMara fits with your style, but would want to see it on to check color.

The bag is amazing too.

All lovely. I want to see WIWs of all. I am particularly drawn to the navy . I also support the MaxMara. Not too severe- very professional, and you can soften with one of your lovely scarves and/or add colorful shoes or purse.

Lovely dresses. I wouldn't call 4 severe, more like edgy, and agree that the styling could veer it into either direction (with pulled back hair and stiletto's: probably too severe :-D).
Your way of dressing for the office resonates with me btw. Good to know these things of oneself.

Kathie, that’s a very good point. Thank you. No I wouldn’t want to nor I think would I need to. But my smart winter coat would work well over it.

Bijou, that is kind of you. I need to either brace myself for b&m shopping or lay out the £ for the online. I’m not quite so committed yet but I agree that is the only way I will know! It’s helpful to know your experience of MaxMara - thank you.

I KNOW that yellow coat! It’s a wow coat for sure! The bag is really lovely. But I’m a big bag handler, on the train especially, always dipping in and out so I’m not sure the beautiful suede lining will far so well.

Katerina, I’ve not tried it on yet. I’m kind of testing the water with YLF first. It’s going to be a bit of effort to sort out trying it on, so wanted to be sure there wasn’t a resounding no first. Fab, I'm glad you like the bag too!

Thank you Karen, the navy LKB has been super. Although the hem came down on a big meeting day which was slightly irritating. Anyway sewn up now and I’m wearing today.

Thank you Liesbeth, I’m glad I’m not off on my judgement of the dress. I can look a little severe occasionally because I forget to smile!

RL thank you that is a very good point! I am more comfortable where my curves are comfortably accommodated. Definitely worth a try but I think you may have something there!

My first thought was that the skirt portion is not sufficiently flared, but the buttons can be repositioned. Try it!

It looks nice, but think the buttons wouldn't work with a jacket. I'd also worry about wardrobe malfunctions with them! I'd call it sharp, but not severe if that makes sense. My favorite of the 4 is the third dress though!
