Wool coat shopping-eta another picture

I've been on the hunt for a coat to add to my Christmas list for DH...I think I found the right one and just wondered what you fabbers think of these colors...
I'm thinking the sapphire color would be versatile and flattering (first photo).. I'm trying on the taupe color (2) in the store...this fits nicely not too tight in the shoulders which can be an issue for me and I like the length. What are your thoughts on this color? I'm thinking it looks a little washed out but now that I see the photo it looks better than I thought. The third photo is of a jacket I found at TJMaxx that came home with me and then I found it at Macy's for twice the price but I'm returning it...it just makes me look huge:(.

The taupe is a lovely neutral but is it "cooler" than your palette?
Which is strange to ask because the blue is cool, too but it looks like a great color that would look good on you and then, being a scarf wannabe person, I can see all kinds of fab accessory accents with the blue. If the blue goes with your wardrobe I'd try it.

That's too bad about about the plaid jacket. That's the one my eye was immediately drawn to. But who wants to look huge? I like the blue one. The taupe one I like less, but it might be the lighting in the picture.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking, UF. The blue seems like it would work well with all of my scarves, cognac and black boots. The taupe is pretty just not what I would pick normally for a neutral.

JAileen- I know...I keep thinking the plaid jacket looks so much better than it looks in the pictures...I want to like it...the colors and plaid is so fun...but pictures don't lie, or do they?

Pictures show what we can't see, but did you take a picture of yourself in it? The other thing is, stuff is at TJMaxx because it didn't sell. Why not? Did it made everyone look huge?

ETA: never mind! Your grimace isn't helping! It's not bad, but it's not great, either.

The taupe coat has princess seams which are slimming. That's why you don't like the plaid one.

Thanks, JAileen...I guess you can tell by my photo what I think of the coat on me:) the taupe coat is a much more flattering style for my body type, for sure...but I love that plaid coat:(

I tried on that coat too and it was too much pattern.
I had liked a similar AT coat last year but still decided against the novelty. But I think that just the right novelty coat would be fun.
I got my LOFT burgundy and navy animal print coat for that reason. The more subdued color scheme didn't overwhelm me the way the bold plaid or stripes do, but it's still a "fun" coat rather than a classic.

I vote for the blue coat. I love the checks but the are visually widening. The taupe is OK but I think it would need to be darker like a donkey color to look best. Happy coat shopping!

Love the blue coat and think it would look fantastic on you! Taupe is tricky I think - for a coat, I'd say the blue would be the most versatile.

This is why I need a bigger phone. On my 3 year old iPhone 5, picture 4 looks great. While the taupe coat looks blah.

I was drawn to the first coat also. Beautiful color and classic lines make it a great backdrop for accessories that will keep it current. That blue would be great on you.

Angie- like your link. Do you know if the coat passes the soft hand, non-itchy test? I am sometimes surprised at how coarse wool coats are. Thanks!

Love the fit of the taupe one on you! I would say if you had any reservations about the taupe (which it sounds like you did), then the blue is a better pick. You're going to want to wear the coat a lot, and any lingering questions in the back of your mind re: color could be deterrents to wearing it.
