So what better time than a 96 degree afternoon to crank up the AC and try on some coats, right?
Well, I was taking a break from work and decided to try on some old coats in light of the plaid Bernardo coat from NAS. Also, the light wash Dojo jeans from the NAS arrived and I decided to try them on. Of course I wilted by the time I tried on a few coats and didn’t get a pic of the jeans without a topper, but I think they are keepers. They’re very stretchy and comfortable, and actually generous in length. I need to have an inch hemmed on them, which rarely happens. Pic 5 shows them on the left with all my other bootcut jeans on the right — I like the idea of having a lighter wash pair.
Anyway, a few older coats potentially on the chopping block:
1 JCrew turquoise coat from maybe 8-9 years ago. It’s a size 6 and consequently is a good size too small for me now. I’m not sure that I want to keep hanging onto it for the “maybe someday” of losing a full size from where I am now. I like the color but not sure it’s what I really want to wear anymore. I think I’d prefer to find other items in this color. It’s still in excellent condition, although I changed out the buttons from gold to silver, so I think I can sell it.
2 Mural lightweight plaid coat from maybe 3-4 years ago. The fit has never been perfect. I think it’s supposed to be more straight and double breasted styles are always tough on me. If I button the bottom button it looks pretty bad. Plus I had a wreck while wearing this coat riding a Lime scooter and can’t disassociate the coat from the incident. Silly but there it is. It wasn’t expensive so I don’t consider it a big loss. I think it’s time to donate.
3 This is actually a silk Classiques Entier from maybe 6-7 years ago. It’s also a little snug on the hip if I button it all the way, but it looks good open and it’s very lightweight so it’s more like a topper than outerwear. But I’m unsure whether I’m tired of the print. I am inclined to keep and see if it gets worn next season.
4 Kensie black and grey glen plaid coat from maybe 8 years ago. It looks a bit somber in photos, and it’s just starting to show a bit of wear, but the fit is still really nice and it’s classic. It’s a different enough vibe from the new Bernardo that I think I’ll keep it for another season.
TL:DR - the first two coats are probably going. The second two are holding zone and keep, respectively.
I also have some other wool coats in mostly solid dark colors that I plan to keep:
- a long dressy tailored burgundy coat
- a black Trina Turk military mid length coat
- a roomy dark forest green Madewell coat that layers over bulky tops and blazers
- a short off white wool pea coat from Banana Republic that is a little dressy/preppy for me but occasionally comes in handy.
- a mid length blue and black plaid Pendleton coat from NAS about four years ago
Any thoughts?
