Hi there,

I am thinking of treating myself to a pair of Wolford tights. Would matte opaque tights look weird with my Christmas dress? It is a Calvin Klein sleevless dress (like this except in a dark blue). Or should I wear nylons (which I loathe and I find that they don't keep me warm enough). Canadian winters...

I like sheer black nylons the best with a dressy dress like yours. However, I would have to go with tights in the winter. I think burgundy tights with black shoes would look festive.

I would wear sheer hose with a dress like this, too. I think tights would look too heavy. As far as keeping warm, I would be cold from the sleeveless-ness more than from what I wore on my legs...if that makes sense!

love that dress, but i'm not sure that a dress like that would work with tights. do you have some tights at home now that you could try it with (before spending the money on a pair of wolfords), to get a feel for what it would look like? maybe post the results?

I wore dark opaque tights with a sleeveless dress a few years ago. It didn't sound like something that would work but it did. You may have to put them together to see how it looks. Worst case scenario is you change to something more sheer and keep the tights for another purpose.

yes, I do have an old pair of heavier tights that I can try with the dress to give me a sense of the look. I agree it isn't quite the "right" thing to do (and yes my upper body could be cold too), but I abhor nylons/sheer things on my legs

How about some patterned tights...I have a thick lacy pair that are not nylon and comfortable and let a little skin show. No idea do the brand sorry!

I guess I'm in the minority when I say that I would feel comfortable wearing my Wolford Velvet matte 66 (is that the name?) tights with that dress, and those would actually be my go-to option. What kind of footwear will you be wearing?

My shoes are a pair of black high heeled pumps. Classic looking.

I always put warmth above fashion. Still. The dress is sleeveless . . . I would totally freeze in that, no matter the venue.

Yes, matte black tights are a very 'chelsea girl' option. I wouldn't hesitate.

Huge Wolford fan here, their tights are not the bulky casual things apparently coming to most other posters' minds.

Will you wear a wrap or other upper-body warmth of some sort?

I would like to wear a wrap but I do not have one (yet) in my wardrobe. Any links to a nice one would be appreciated.

I would wear the opaque tights, as they are seasonally appropriate. Black patent shoes and maybe a cropped brown fur chubby or black fur caplet.

I personally find "wraps" fussy and not all the warm, and I think they often detract from the lines of a nice dress, FWIW.

I think tights could go very nicely with that dress. It's a thicker, stretchy fabric, which to me would lend itself to this option. It will look less formal, but still great for a party.
