WIWweek8M: Elvis is in the building!

This jacket is a bit of a departure for me. It's made by Laveer, which makes only blazers and manufactures in the US. I spotted it on the Barney's Warehouse site and since I'd had an unexpected windfall (fun money!!!) said what the heck. Now I don't know. It is much flashier than Usual Me. Is it too Vegas for my style? The patterns are printed, not woven in or brocaded, and the fabric has a slightly slick feeling.

Please don't just say you like it; if you do, say why.

Also I am cringing to see lovely gut overflow in pic 3. Aargh. I blame the jeans.

I like the shape of the jacket and the darker colored sleeves and lapels. I don't care much for that floral print, though.

Every wardrobe needs a couple of outliers for days when you want a little more pizazz, so if you like it, rock on.

I'm not a fan, it looks too patchwork like. I don't see any Elvis with all those little flowers I see more house on the prairie. I'm surprised you bought it, not even close to what I'm used to seeing on you. It could be cute on someone with a different style like I could see it on Elizabeth from Delightfully Tacky.

I love the Laveer jacket on you, Dana. It's in line with your occasional preference for ditsy florals, and in the right colours for your style. I vote 11 out of 10.

Honestly I never thought calico or quilts. But perhaps that is why it was on sale.

In the grey and in this print, it's 90s-reminiscent and fits you well. I'm not in love with it personally because I find the two panels distracting. It's certainly not loud or Vegas, if that's your worry!

Dana, is yours grey as well? In your photos it looks blue, which I do not like because the combo of ditsy print and denimy colors together say country prairie calico to me. But I do like it in the grey, which is more urban and less country. In grey, the balance between sweet and edgy is excellent.

(This is why I like my liberty prints in dark moody colorways too.)

Diana, the labels are dark blue with gray details, and the body is a sort of steel blue gray with dark blue details.

Hmm, I think I'd have to see it in person because in your photo it looks denim colored but in the product photo it does not. In the end I'm just not fond of denim colored things that aren't actually denim ; I don't even like chambray if we're being honest.

ETA: Might be poison eye though so feel free to disregard.

Well, I'm with Angie here because I think it's an interesting riff on the floral/patterned jacket trend. To my eye, the overall effect of this type of jacket really depends on who is wearing it and how it is worn. I get edgy, sophisticated urban on you as opposed to calico/patchwork country which, I think, could be the effect if it was worn by someone who was curvier with softer features or whose wardrobe inclined towards a girlier, more feminine look.

Ditzy floral is your secret Simon Doonan style. I think for me is how it's styled. White crewneck is not working. I think it needs a button down. Something more strict to play off the ditzy.

But first response before reading ithers was that I liked the nixed media look with the pseudo texture. Same look, no bulk, vertical lines make you look 10dt tall.

I have sugar eye for blue-greys and this type of floral, be warned. But maybe cultural... it's too faux-neutral for the prairie or quilting bee surely? Like, not colourful a la Raggedy Anns and Andies...

Yes it is unexpected in your closet. But I think it makes for drama and not misfit-itude.

I really like the fit of the jacket but not the color. I think I would like it more if it was in black and white or some other dramatic color.

Ok I'll be honest. I don't personally like it and to me it doesn't seem to blend in effortlessly with your style. It seems...I dunno....stiff? You wear fluid styles so well. But I'm just a newbie here so don't listen to me

I just saw this -- haven't had much time to be on the forum today. I see it completely in line with your liberty floral love. Personally, I find the lapels distracting, but overall I can totally see why you pounced on it!

I'm torn about it. I like the fit, and I like the pattern of the sleeves and lapels. And I don't mind the color.
It's the floral print that I'm having trouble with, but then I am NOT a floral person.
As Angie said, I think this is expressing the part of your style that likes ditsy florals/ Liberty prints, and in that case, I think the rest of the structure of the piece will make it work for you.

I think the colors work--deep and grayed. Not dusty pink and blue.
The style looks fairly crisp and not flouncy. I am fabric-feel sensitive though ,so if it lacks good movement or feels cheap, that could be a no-go.
I like annagybee's comment--would try pairing it up with much bad-er stuff.
Even if a tee, then a dark or grungy or rockstar tee, not a safe T with blazer.
Or over a hoodie?!

Are the colors more accurate in the your picture or in the catalog? I like them better in the catalog with less blue and more grey. Also the pattern reminds me of lace more than of ditsy floral.
I quite like it but Anna maybe right about a different styling with under layer - maybe a tee with a deeper neckline like on the model? Or button down like Anna suggested. It is different from you usual style but isn't it called "style evolution"?

It's a fabulous jacket and I really like the cut on you. Not OTT in my opinion, the tones actually 'subdue' the jacket.

Love the fit of the jacket and the darker lapels. I find the floral gives some juxtaposition to what could be an outfit with a masculine sensibility. That's something I love in an outfit - the unexpected juxtaposition.

The more I look at it the more it grows on me. I think I was thrown by the floral and structure as I'm accustomed to seeing you in fluid, solid fabrics. For what it's worth, Polyvore has it styled the same way.

Is the slick feel of the fabric going to be bothersome to you?

Late to respond, not because I clicked on the link and thought, "What do I say?" but because I've been sticky with dough, baking a truckload of oatmeal raisin cookies for DH's birthday. And yes, I was wearing a disty floral apron.

At first glance, I thought, "I could never wear this without looking like a Duggar." Thing is --- you completely make this work. I like the sharp notch of the lapel combined with the wide, rounded arch of the rest of the front. The construction is sharp and crisp, and I have, and always will be, a sucker for contrasting prints. This seems like a beautifully made jacket, and pairing with minimal black/white does give off a bit of Elvis vibe.

I will always encourage the print loving side of your style because I thinks it's interesting combined with your more architectural pieces.

umm, 6) time difference and new job?
It reminds me of the silver jacket I showed the forum last year. Most approved but in the end I sold it because it just didn't feel right for me. You love the occasional ditsy floral so that is a plus. It does read Elvis a bit - but I think that is your pose in #2. I think the very boxy fit bothers me a bit. It has to be love at first site to wear a jacket like this.
