WIWW: styling my new skirt

I have to lead a retreat tomorrow afternoon and am figuring out my outfit- how does my new JCrew skirt work with these boots and my silk blouse tucked? I will fix the "gap" in the blouse when I wear it, don't worry.

I think those boots don't work with the outfit. They look too heavy or thick or something. They do bookend your hair beautifully but I don't think they look good with the skirt.

The skirt and blouse look nice together!

To my eye, the boots are too casual and distressed for the dressy blouse and skirt. I like the color fine, and I can see where you were going with bookending your hair--do you have a nude pump or flat?

That's a beautiful skirt and I love the blouse too. I have to agree that the boots don't quite work with Thr outfit. They seem a little too rugged for this outfit.

I like the boots with this outfit, Sarah! They do dress down the outfit, but it all works to my eye.

Nice, and your leopard flats could work here too. That blue blouse just makes your eyes look incredible! I love the colors in the skirt too, it will go with everything. Good luck leading your retreat.

I think the boots would work with this skirt with a bulky sweater, although it is probably too warm to consider that right now. But Angie likes the combination as is, and I'm sure some of the people at the retreat would also, so the real question is how much do you love it? If it makes you feel happy and comfortable in your skin, go out and rock it. If you are feeling unsure, then it might be better to swap out either the boots or the blouse. Both look fine with the skirt IMO but the three together are a little unconventional, which means you have to wear it with panache and confidence or not at all. ;o)

I'd hoped that the boots would de-bombshell this pencil skirt, and most of you don't like it, but Angie does. What will I decide???

JR - I love your take on this. I DO love these boots, and wearing them with this skirt makes me feel unconventional in a good way (I'm striving for more of that in my life these days). So I'm leaning towards going for it.

Oh, Rita, where are you to defend these boots from all of these naysayers? ; )

Hmm, I like the boots with the outfit in theory, but what throws me off in practice is that to my eye the boots are a little too tall for that skirt (or the skirt is too long for the boots). But the most important thing is that you like it, so go for it!

Thanks, I'll try that, Angie. I may also try tying the shirt, just for kicks, or adding a denim jacket on top to "balance out" the de-bombshelling up top. Thoughts about that? I'm at work, so can't do it now.

I like the boots with the the skirt - a lot! I agree with your instincts - de-dressy the top. Add denim or switch to something less silky.
I like it all together though - but I wear silk with anything, flip-flops yesterday...

Hmmm. Well, Angie has spoken, and her vote must be weighted more heavily :). I will toss in my two cents just for kicks: I think in my head, the dark jewel tones of the skirt and blouse would work best with darker footwear, despite your blond hair. Somehow I see those boots with lighter colors (light blue, denim, light gray, cream, light olive, light anything really) or with black or dark gray + something else light on top to bookend (like a scarf). But I readily admit that this is just my (probably) warped view of the versatility of these light boots!

I like this as is (although I agree that similar boots in a darker color, maybe darker brown, might make this more "balanced").

BTW, I have been secretly lusting after this skirt ever since you posted it the first time. Unfortunately, I find it hard to justify getting my fifth (or sixth?) pencil skirt. So I'll probably have to enjoy it vicariously through your photos.

I like it. The boots and skirt/top are a "mismatch", but mismatching is the new matching. Net-a-Porter agrees with me, I tell you!!! hehe.

I like it. I think it works because you have some skin showing between the skirt and the top of the boot. Fun outfit!

Okay, obviously the following is completely my subjective opinion. I LOVE the skirt, but while the shirt clearly picks up a blue from the skirt, my taste would be to wear a neutral dark top and accent with the stunning blue in a bracelet or something else on a smaller scale. I also see what Jonesy sees about the skirt asking for dark shoes. Other ideas would be to try the skirt with a denim blouse, which I could see potentially working with the blond boots. Even throwing on a denim jacket with your current ensemble might accommodate the vibe of the boots better. That's how I see it, but on the other hand Rachylou is also right about mismatching and matching
