Following up on my earlier thread, here are some more options. BUT NOTE: the flash makes the blouse WAY shinier than it is IRL. HONESTLY.

#1 - for Anna
#2 - for Sara
#3 - for Scarlet
#4 - for everyone who wanted "dark"

Thoughts? Maybe I'll just wear my jeans to this darn retreat...

I think 3 could work with a belt. The denim shirt sort of dresses down the skirt and is more in keeping with the boots. I think 4 works, too.

I like your original version and #2 and #4 from this spread. I honestly think either of these three outfits would be great.

Sarah, I love the outfit and I am sorry I was getting into bed when I saw your first post so didnt comment. Please note that I haven't read the comments on the earlier post so I hope I am not being repetitive. My only concern with the orginal outfit were the boots which somehow to my eye looked not quite right. Change out the shoes and you are good to go. #2 here looks great.

I love the denim skirt with the boots and skirt. Can you tuck it like the blouse? It's a fantastic look, whether or not you wear it to the retreat.

I also like the IDEA of #4 a lot. But maybe with slightly less opaque hose and a different bootie. And that might feel a bit wintery for this weekend.

You also have other light coloured footwear, right? Because some of your lighter shoes might work a bit better than the boots with the original blouse.

I was on Team Dark on the other thread, but I think I like #3 best here <ducking for cover>. I am very into faded denim these days, and I think that combo looks the coolest :).

No. 3 is my favorite of the bunch, too. However, I think I like it more than the original combination precisely because the denim shirt is untucked. I'm really curious what your final choice will be.

Oh fun - this is almost like paperdolls!! Just wish I could slide the feet L to R, then the tops L to R to check out all possible combos

I actually think I might like #3 best is the shirt was tucked into the skirt. . .

I adore the top in #4 with that skirt, but can't decide what footwear I'd like best then.

Thanks, everyone, for bearing with me! This exercise has made me feel like I still have a lot to learn, since everything looks so different (yet again) in the pics compared to in my head!

I think I'm leaning towards #3, with apologies to those of you who want it tucked. I think it would look awful on me tucked, as I'm quite short-waisted, and the denim is pretty stiff, so it wouldn't "drape" at all.

Makrame - do you know about the 15% off educator's discnt at JCrew? They'll stack it on top of sale items. Not to be an enabler or anything... you have to buy in the store or order on the store phone, so they can check your ID, although the last time I was in they said I could email the store manager and she'd order things for me with the discnt and free shipping.

Shannon and Suz, those are actually black boots in #4 - THE black boots, actually that received so much attention yesterday (the blondos). See how hard it is for me to wear black boots? I never should have bought another pair ; ). Next time I'll try brown boots...too bad I don't have grey ones.

You're kidding!!! Those are the BOOTS?? Well, no wonder they looked like lumpy tights!!

That is hilarious.

Now that I know what they are and zoom in on them - this might work really well! Do you have some more sheer hose to wear - or bare legs - inside those boots intead of opaque hose at the knee level? That might balance the bare neckline/arms and be just enough - and look great!! I do think with opaque tights it could feel just a bit too wintery for this time of year, and heaven knows we will get our share of opportunities for truly wintery outfits soon enough, so something transitional like #3 might be nice.

LOL, Suz, those are ALL BOOT - the skirt is long enough that it covers the top entirely. I probably need something up top to bookend the black.

I like 3 the best--at least I am consistent I think it's very cool. I would also love 1 paired with the sweater from 4 instead of the blouse, although I get what you are saying about photos and shine. But I would love that combo so I just want to mention it. The sweater with that skirt is divine! Don't wear your jeans, Sarah; you will look fab no matter which combination you choose of all the ones you have shown.

Yeah - those boots will work just fine if you cover up more skin on top. It's not that the purple isn't dark enough - it's just that the neckline, combined with arms, combined with your hair/face makes the top and bottom unbalanced. If you are wearing that skirt, a button down all buttoned up, a jacket, and those black boots, you will be rockin'! (Come winter, I mean). No worries there.

It does get us back to the whole "sweet spot" for high boots and skirts question though, doesn't it. I think this varies from person to person and skirt style to skirt style. I, personally, like the skirt EITHER to show some kneecap-in-hose (or not in hose) OR to show none at all. Where I get all uncomfortable is if the top of the boot just hits the bottom of the skirt. It just feels odd on me and the proportions look off. I will be returning to Angie's blog post on that subject shortly!

I don't know how to vote without knowing more about the retreat. What will your audience be like? Students, cool academics, frumpy academics? The public? I like the skirt with the blonde boots for sure.

Thanks again, ladies. I am wearing #3 (*high five* Scarlet). I'm pleased that this denim shirt which feels too short for pants is maybe going to have a new life with skirts.

Suz, yes, I agree completely. I don't have any hose on at all with #4 (or any of the rest for that matter). As you say, I think there needs to be no leg showing at all (as in 4) or at least an inch or so (as in 3). This is my first midi (in a long time), so I feel like I'm learning all over again.

April, definitely frumpy profs and cool grad students...

Rita, that's a great inspiration photo - I do have pewter ballet flats that will work for a little while (altho its' already getting cool enough in the mornings that my feet are too cold in ballet flats when I ride my bike, although I could swap out my shoes if I need to for the ride it).
