Today I participated in my first sprint distance triathlon of this season. It required 1 change of outfit, and 3 different sets of accessories in under 2 hours. It also required ownership of my body, since most of the event is done in an outfit that resembles a sausage casing, and there isn't much left to the imagination.

The first outfit (for the swim) consisted of a Seventeen wetsuit. I have the 'pink ribbon' version and it is the oldest thing in my closet (when it isn't hanging up in the garage), Speedo Vanquisher goggles, and a swim cap provided by the event organizers.

The second outfit (for the bike portion) is revealed when the wetsuit is peeled off - a Zoot tri-suit (the above mentioned sausage caseing) new this season, the ubiquitous ankle bracelet monitor, and my trusty Garmin watch/timer thingy. A Giro helmet, Specialized cycling shoes, race belt with #130 and Litespeed bike complete the look.

The third outfit consists of loosing the cycling accessories and doning the Saucony Kinvera (bunion friendly) running shoes.

And since no self respecting woman goes out without a bag - Speedo backpack. Oh! And did I mention the Sharpie tatoos? They write your number on your arm, and your event, and your AGE on the back of your calf!

I did not get one of my better times, but there is always a list of excuses at the ready as any well trained weekend warrior knows. It was cold (15degC) and windy, and there was a nasty chop on the lake! But I did have a very fun time, even if it meant a 'big reveal'. I own that my legs and arms are toned from workouts, however my tummy sticks out further than my chest, my neck and chest is crepey, and my hair...well the less said the better!
