WIW(on): Two bags for charity

I went to a YWCA event last night where a friend was getting an award. The fundraiser was a purse auction and I bid on a bunch of stuff not intending to win at all. In fact I was the first bidder on two, and I won them. Gah! One is this Coach mini duffel in iris, and the other is this Liebeskind. I paid less than half price for each, and that included 4 season tickets to our local basketball team.

What do you think? I am not a bag lady! Eek!

The Coach is such a luscious colour! But have I ever seen you in browns? If you wear browns then its a big keep imo. The second seems to be a bit conservative for your style .... I am not sure!

ETA: OK ... The coach is a purple? ... Ack! Hmmm ... Could be a great contrast with your dark colors. Would you reach for it often?

OMG! I randomly saw the iris coach duffle in a store earlier this year and obsessed over it for a while. Ultimately decided not to get one (at full price) because it's a bit too small for me (and the big one doesn't come in iris), but it is a really delicious color. Glad you got one so I can live vicariously! =)

I love the first bag and could see it working for you. It's a great colour and the leather looks soft and delicious. The question is what other bag(s) you have that serve the purposes this one would be good for. I too am not a bag lady and am happy with as few as possible, rotating them did not excite me as much as I thought it would, so risk factor of this cutie languishing in my wardrobe would be pretty high if I did not have clear idea where to wear it and if the size was not right.

From what I had noticed in the past, Liebeskind can be along UWP vibe and I wish I could see your bag but I can't. When opening US links from outside US I go to the main site, not the product (this happens with Anthroplogie and some other brads too), so I don't know how the second bag compares to the first one. In any case, I'd say brainstorm when and how both bags can be worn before snapping the tags off, or make someone happy by selling them.

i love the shape of both of these bags. i guess the 1st question is size, do both of these bags actually hold what you want/need to carry? then are the handles long enough/comfortable enough for you to carry with a coat on? if yes to both, then congrats! lovely bags, and i can see the coach bag brighting up so of your long winter days.

Oh wow, I would be quite distraught about this too! I am not a bag lady either and when I get one, I need it to be my choice. I LOVE the shape of the Coach duffle, but would never wear the iris color, it just looks too sweet to my eye. The cognac would be awesome. The Liebeskind is in black? This one might be useful for your wardrobe? If not, sell both on Ebay, you should get whatever you paid for them back, no?

Those are both gorgeous bags! I think that iris color will be a fun addition to your wardrobe and the other looks like a great quality everyday bag!

I think the iris colour is a fab contrast to black and grey and won't look too twee with your wardrobe. Or maybe you can trade it in for a different colour if that is a worry.

Back again Una...I just realised the Coach bag is purple....when I looked at the photo initially, I thought you had the first one pictured which is the cognac one. I didn't look in to the colours, hence my earlier comment. But after looking at the iris......Mmmm....not a great colour for you. eBay????

I'm not a bag person either, so I understand your hesitation. Maybe really fab gifts over time to your sister, or someone who would love them? And it was a gift you gave to bid on the items in the first place.

I like them both, but I am a bag lady. Depends what you will carry. I always want something I can throw my iPad into for mobile office purposes.

You look good in that purple color-- I agree it would be fab with all the black and grey and would be a shot of color with black coats in the winter. The black one didn't thrill me, but might make a nice everyday bag. Alternatively, you could keep one or the other and gift or re-sell the other-- that way you still have your "charity purse" and aresupporting your friend but neither bag gets lost at the bottom of your closet.

The Liebeskind is actually a bit more RATE - it has steampunky hardware and a grey plaid lining. Seems harder for me to destroy, which is a factor. I am debating but meanwhile no tags have been cut. DH and DS both loved the purple, which is a gorgeous almost ultraviolet. Interesting. I need to start a post on how to wear purses, as I don't get it at all!

I LOVE the Liebeskind -- it's that dome shape, right? So great. Love that.
I have to admit I would have trouble with the iris, but you will probably find a very cool way to work it into an outfit. Alternatively, you could hold onto either a great gifts for someone else, or you could sell them. Lots of options.

First, does the Iris obnoxiously clash or harmonize with your hair color or any color you might get in the future? I really like the purple (and yellow!) in the bucket style because it is so unexpected unlike cognac or black. And not a twee color. Put that baby next to your coats and jackets. I'll bet that it goes with most things. That's the weird thing about colored bags if you wear a lot of neutrals. If that turns out to be the case for you, you can use it a lot without having to switch out.

The black bag is an interesting shape. Does it hold much? I agree that in your climate, the bag needs to fit over your coats and jackets plus hold what you need to carry. My memory is that you're not an insecure packrat so your needs are more minimal than some of us.

Donna, that's partly true but I also end up with stuff in my bag like snacks and gloves thanks to DS. I am more worried about destroying bags - just the other day I found a squishy banana at the bottom of my tote that I'd completely forgotten. Yuck. No bag deserves that!

AG-- most bags can be professionally cleaned just like leather jackets, and if you stain the outside leather you can always put a light leather dye rub on it-- metallic bronze over the lilac would make it more RATE.
