WIW: wide loose jeans (JFE) - YouLookFab Forum

Here’s a look at my Sideline April trousers which I chose for my Christmas gift. I love denim and really enjoy experimenting with different cuts. These are way outside the norm for me, but they really spoke to me - a new (British) brand, found at a little shop in Portland. They are a really lightweight denim that has a ton of movement. They have a high waist with a belt tie, and deep pockets.

In order to work with the higher waist, I have worn both a fitted tee (emphasizing the cinch and the belt) and a looser cropped sweater, which is what you see here. I picked up two cropped sweaters from Everlane and I really like how they are not too cropped. This one is cashmere.

This may not be a look everyone will love but I am enjoying it today. Let me know your thoughts.

love the easy, relaxed vibe of the jeans...but can totally see them dressed up with an attitude as well....i've been moving towards higher/high waisted jeans as well and experimenting with what's the right top lenght...its hard to find cropped but not to cropped, its kinf of like goldilock..this everlane "is just right"

This is great, Viva. Love the relaxed vibe. I was actually just looking at that sweater. I was concerned that it might be too cropped but it looks fantastic on you.....I'm only 5' so it should be fine.

I have also been continuing to keep an eye out for shorter sweaters. They seem more modern with high waisted jeans to me. Just ordered a cropped v neck from Everlane myself.

I have yet to fully embrace the wide legged pants look. I like the idea, but think I need a really good tailor to help me pull it off without looking too short.

The top works REALLY well with the silhouette of the jeans. Cropped and fluid in just the right way. Jeans are a good length and fit.

The covered yet visible ties bother me a little with this styling - but not a lot. Can you remove the tie when you cover the waist of the pants with this type of top, or will they fall down? Or can you tuck the ties away? When worn with the tucked tee like you mentioned, you see the paper bag waist in all its glory - which is how I suspect they were intended to be worn. What do you think?

I like this look -you are right about more modern with cropped but not too.

I have lots of tie waist pants and have been disliking the ties showing. I have thought about makin a small incision in the inner waist band and tying to the inside, but have not tried it yet on a sacrificial pair. I’ve tried a knot instead of a bow and tucked them inside, but it is annoying. I hope someone will post a different solution.

I love this! I've been trying to find the right pair of paperbag waist pants since last summer. Everlane does boxy/cropped tops and sweaters so well -- I think they're a great resource for styling high-waisted pants. And lisa p is right, this reminds me a lot of Stylebee!

Thanks, everyone, for the positivity! This sweater felt right and I am so glad to learn that it was right from your perspectives too. I've really shied away from boxy/square tops but with pants like these they really work, and Everlane is a terrific resource for them.

Angie/Karen13: I know what you mean about the tie belt. Mine is actually totally removable, so next time I wear a looser cropped top I will try the pants without it. (The waistband is definitely snug enough to keep the pants up.)

Lisap: These pants are casual only, I think, although would work for traveling (comfy) and going out while traveling (rare). It's a bit too relaxed for me to wear for interviewing/groups. Sometimes I wear denim, but a crisper look. The sweater is indeed thanks to StyleBee and I really love it.

well done !I love seeing people being adventurous with trouser styles and not sticking to the same old cut.I agree with Angie ,try a tucked in top next time .With paper bag trousers you are supposed to show case the waist area which some people find a bit challenging but you are slim so will rock it.Love your haircut by the way.

Viva.......Just a thought on the tie belt. Years ago I had a pair of relaxed fit pants from Lululemon. The interesting thing was they had the usual holes at the front for the ties but they also had another pair of holes on the back so you could pull them to the inside to hide them. I wore them that way so the ties wouldn't show through my shirt. Just a thought if you're up for a DIY. You just need a couple slits and maybe a bit of Fray Check to seal the edges.
