Hi there, a bit of a random mish-mash for fun and my own learning!

1, 2, 3. Any Australians fabbers know this brand? It's just showed up at the Bay (Cdn department store). I really liked this coat a lot ... it was polished but spacious enough to go over a thicker sweater. I am ideally looking for cool beige but am very tempted ... it seems well-made esp. for the quite reasonable price.

4, 5. A sweater I tried. I really liked the fit and idea of it, but the offset pattern looked really busy ... I had visions of people saying they were getting a headache from my sweater lol. DH was disappointed as he really liked it. Keeping an eye out for a similar fit in a flattering solid or less dizzy pattern

6. Another coat - this one's the ideal colour but I wasn't sold on the quality. From Zara.

7, 8, 9 - three variations on what is going to be my fall/winter uniform ... 501 jeans and a sweater. Just noticed I did change the shoes up which is unlike me - I guess I like my shoe collection at the moment! The sweater in 7 looks black in the photo but is actually deep burgundy, as are the booties in 8. The pink sweater is getting loads of wear already!

I quite like the coat on you… I feel like you have scarves that will work well with it? Much as I love the look I don’t find that type of low stance wool coat very practical for our climate but I saw people wearing them downtown today so maybe I just need to consider them ‘transitional’ rather than winter!

Hmm… The coat looks big. Try a size down? I’m thinking hold out for the cool beige. Agreeing with your DH - the top looks great! Good ‘uniform’.

Jules yes ... Transitional or else for occasions where there is very little outside time! I do have a beloved gray plaid scarf that has been orphaned in recent years that would work well with this coat.

Carla re the fit ... I wonder if maybe it's just too tailored a style for my looser fitting tops ... The size down felt so tight over my linen shirt, I would have to vacuum pack my arms into it if I was wearing a sweater! Thank you for the feedback!

Love the first coat, but the low stance gives me pause. My neck and chest would be cold in that coat in midwinter, and our winter's are certainly mild compared to yours.

I think the sweater looks great on you! As someone with chronic migraine for whom patterns can often be triggering, that one is fine. Geometrics generally do not bother me. It's a strict pattern, if that makes sense, whereas random patterns, especially small scale, multi-color random patterns, are the ones most likely to trigger a migraine for me.

I think that the stance of the coat is too low and if I’m being honest, not the best color on you.

But I’m with your DH, too - love the sweater!

The “ dizzy sweater “ is interesting to me because of the idea of how to choose flattering prints/patterns . An older post by Bridgette Raes in Inge’s roundup.
I think the sweater’s ok, but doesn’t do anything special for you. A slightly bigger pattern, colors that echo your coloring( including specific neutrals), some other elements would be more flattering, if that’s of interest.

May also apply to the coat, regarding color.

I know of the brand but have not purchased anything from Ever New to speak to the quality. It is popular in Australia, especially with younger girls for office wear. Personally, I prefer slightly more expensive Australian stores such as Cue and Veronika Maine, as they tend to use better fabrics in their coats, and they last for years.

My vote is don't buy this one but wait until the perfect cut and colour come along.

I'm with DH, in really liking that sweater on you - I love the lighter colour and V-neck on you. However, if it feels too busy for your style, then it is a no go.

Your Fall uniform is fabulous, you look sensational in all three outfits.

Might be the lighting but the gray coat is a bit dull for your complexion? The jacket in number 7 is perfect for a uniform look.

- thanks for confirming about the light gray ... I agree it's blah on me. Charcoal is my gray! Beige or cool taupe is the way to go
-interesting about the stance if the coat ... This is not something that bothers me but a good note to keep in mind
-love everyone's takes on the sweater! I like unfrumped's idea of a more decisive pattern
-thanks Bijou for the Intel on the brand ... I suspected it was perhaps a Mango equivalent and sounds like that's on the right track.

I agree with the others on coat#1, it buttons too low and the fit is not quite right.
I think the patterned v sweater looks great on you but does it feel authentic to your personal style? How do YOU feel in it? Sometimes a pattern may look just fine on us but something internal keeps us from feeling totally comfortable wearing it. Or could it become something you just need a little time to adjust to?

I like the grey coat but I agree that it looks biggish on you. Your Fall/Winter uniform is very nice! I like the outfit with the pink sweater. The strap of the black bag adds interest to any outfit.
To answer your question, I am currently wearing the heck out of my Summer wardrobe due to the unseasonably warm temperature (24 C today). No shopping at the moment - I have decided to do a no-buy-challenge until the end of the year.

That heather-ed pearl grey coat is a pretty colour on you in #3, Helena! Fit not right, though. Stance too low, shoulders not square, and sleeves too long. That said, its fluidity can work if the other variables were right

I just learned about the "modern classic" style, and it looks like you do it well. Are you in Australia? So spring right now? Looks like you do fall/spring clothes well.

I'm in the minority but I really like the coat :), but if you are wanting something beige or charcoal, then certainly hold out! Love that top on you--I always love a collared knit and that polo collar is both classic and trendy at the moment. It almost reads like a false plain in the pics, and the white trim is so crisp, but if you are not feeling it, then keep looking! Your outfits are fab, especially #7! You wear that warm light beige really well.

I think Ever New is known as Forever New here. I think you are right that Mango is an equivalent. Fine for a top or skirt but I’m not sure whether I’d buy an investment piece like a coat from them, IYKWIM.

Agreeing with Brooklyn: I know the brand as Forever New, and got an outwear piece from them in the UK a few years ago, which I adore! I think Sal at the time recognized it as an Australian brand.

Agreeing with everyone else about your choices. You and I often have a similar style sensibility, and small scale *geometric* patterns often put me off too.

Aha! I wondered if that was Forever New. That’s one of the many Australian brands that has made its way to NZ.
I like the brand but wouldn’t regard it as especially high quality. I’m not sure if I have actually bought clothes from there myself but I have looked quite often. I’ve bought earrings.
The Zara coat looks a better shape maybe? Not as low a “stance”?
