Laurie, yes, I am now a retired teacher. Retirement has been on my radar for a few years, but the timing did not feel right until this year. The pandemic did challenge us all, but it did not really factor into my decision. I just felt ready. Sure, I could have taught for a few more years, but I wanted to depart while still fully engaged and loving my job.

Cardiff, what a wonderful quote! We should all put it by our closets as a reminder of how to truly be beautiful.

Oh, that work situation you mentioned (where your working day is spent less on the actual teaching than everything else) sounds mighty familiar, unfortunately! I'm sure you must be glad to be done with all the extra 'ad hoc' tasks & to finally have week'ends'

I suspect it's a universal thing, upper management using teachers not just to teach, but as a cheap substitute for everything else - from counselling & babysitting to secretaries & even COVID test administrators (over here, at least!) Anyways, I digress...
