Greetings from Kolkata!
We woke this morning to the sound of monks chanting at the neighboring temple and jackals howling outside our window on the golf course.
I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore!

Kolkata is a fascinating madhouse: beggar children sleeping in the street next to incredible marble temples, traffic more chaotic than you can ever imagine, the best food EVER!

The clothes here are gorgeous and inexpensive, so I couldn't resist this beautiful outfit.
(ladies of Indian descent- please forgive me for not draping the dupatta traditionally; the design on the front is too pretty to hide. )

Is it OK to wear the dupatta like that, or do I really need to have both ends down the back?

totally fine to wear the dupatta like that. you rock these colors!!

You can wear it that way, or over one shoulder, or over both - it's pretty much anything goes these days! I wear it across one shoulder (like a cross-body bag) and tie the ends so it doesn't slip off, or pin the shoulder to my kameez.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I was just looking over the photos of Chanel Pre-Fall 2012 which was inspired by India and I love the traditional silhouettes; mind you, I have no idea what they're called! But it's that cool slim pants under a long tunic look.

No worries about that dupatta, btw --- I prefer to wear it on one shoulder myself, for a longer line and so as to keep my neck cool, not throttle my clumsy self, etc. As Firecracker, Sona and alaskagirl have already indicated, there's a myriad ways to drape a dupatta or tie a saree.

Kolkata is mind- boggling and amazing, and seems life-threatening every time we get in the car; taxis zooming and weaving all around through rickshaws and people carrying huge bundles on their heads! We're exhausted, but loving it! Sorry not to reply more, but our Internet connection is not good.
