For a dress that I was on the verge of returning, this one really grew on me. It's a black sheer chiffon dress with gold and red embroidery, and a print of bright colors in a floral pattern. The skirt is VERY full and swirly, but lightweight. The metallic embroidery in diamond shapes always makes me think of a court jester's costume.
I should totally wear my Mardi Gras mask with it someday!
Anyway, there were about 3 separate times today where someone walked past my desk, stopped, and came back to compliment me about the dress, and that never hurts a girl's ego.
Usually, I pair this dress with a bronze or mustard handbag, black tights, and black shoes. I don't think I've ever worn it in warm weather before, but it worked well (with a thick camisole and kneecap-skimming slip underneath for modesty, as the chiffon is rather sheer. To keep the colors from looking too harsh (as it's still beautifully sunny and warm), I paired my spicy orange pumps and peacock blue handbag with the dress. I always love wearing this silver pendant necklace with it, too.
The new bag (a close up in #3) is photographing much lighter (more cerulean blue) than it actually is, since I took these photos in the glare of the afternoon sun. The true color in natural light is a vibrant peacock shade. My handbag wardrobe is becoming very reminiscent of characters from Clue with shades of mustard and peacock!
The upholstered chair is the one new thing in my apartment right now. (Most of the other furnishings are from Ikea, Target, and hand-me-downs.) I spotted the chair on sale at Pier 1 and couldn't resist, since I've been longing for a chair of that shape for years but couldn't find the right pattern/color before. (Teal is heavily featured in the decor of my home.) Originally this chair was going to go in the little reading alcove in our living room; however, I discovered how utterly comfortable it is for my computer desk, and now curl up on it when I'm browsing the web from home. The back and height are just the right shape and height for good, non-slouchy posture at my desk.
