WIW shorts & blazer

This is what I wore as MOTG, but are now working from home and wonder if it looks too dressed up on top and too casual from shorts down, hence making a bad combo?<p/>Silk top (theory)
Blazer (zara)
Shorts (zara)
Utility belt
Tights

The top and bottom are quite high contrast to my eye, but it doesn't look wrong. I think an alternative to tie it all together could be ankle booties rather than sneakers. This is a great jacket, is it the red Zara? It's reading a pinky coral color on my screen.

I am not sure on this one Harmonica, because I often have issues with pairing tights to skirts and shorts. I think the issue, if any, is the dark tights. I think the outfit would look even better without them.

I think for me the very dark tights with the upper light colors is more of the issue. If the shorts were darker denim the transition may be less. I also like the idea of different shoes.

Harmonica: I do not have the practiced "eye" to help you to the next level here, but I think YLFer Diana might -- she posts some fun short/tight ensembles, as do Aida and Nicoledeb. You might look there for some more ideas.

I think the idea is worth continuing to "tweak," since it fits your style and your lifestyle, if you know what I mean!

I guess this its just what I see on the streets allot here. But I am trying to think what could be difference? Ah, they are cutoffs and the look I see working is a tailored shorts of brown or black. to make cutoffs work I think super casual so maybe a woolen tight...and a casual topper under the jacket, like t shirt.

PS. I love the orange jacket..I tried it also at Zara but my back is too long to work for me. I love seeing you style it so much!

Thanks everyone! I wrote a reply, but missed it due to internet problems, but hopefully this one will survive.

I like the idea of booties and that is what I'd normally wear with this, but I have fussy feet days so needs wide, flat shoes. Yes, I think that would work better.

This is the Zara blazer I've bought and worn this summer Colours are far brighter IRL and closer to bright coral, with a touch of orange (maybe)

I don't mind dark / opaque tights with shorts. I like the look and the idea, and works well for my lifestyle - the casual part.

Yes, I agree the cream silk blouse is too dressy with this. A tee would be better, or maybe a long cardi as topper, instead of the blazer.

I got some other outfits with shorts and tights that work well, but it is more for fall. And then the top is dark / black, so that it echoes the dark/black tights and booties.

Well, thanks anyway. I'll keep on "tweeking" the look and hopefully it will be better next time

When going to the hairdresser, I kept the blazer and sneakers, but changed into blue skinny jeans and white tank. That worked well, I think

Hmm, I think this might work better with slouchier, softer shorts (like a more trouser-ish cut, can still be short though if you prefer) for a slightly more luxe look if that makes any sense. Personally I don't love the combo of denim shorts and tights, the denim always seems a little too stiff for me even if they are baggy... I do think that if you want to do denim+tights, it has to be a really grungy, casual look overall - like with ripped tights and a graphic tee; somehow I don't see you going down that route!

Harmonica I think this look is sooo close, but not quite there yet. I definitely like the idea you've got behind it, and have no problem with half dressy half casual but the details need some tweaking. This is definitely a look you can own! If it were me, I would make one (or more) of the following tweaks:

** Shoe tweaks **
1a - Swap the tennies with a dressier shoe (either flat or heeled). This will make the denim+tights the most casual element, and the top and shoes will all tie together nicely.
1b - Swap the tennies with a short boot (again either flat or heeled). This will make the bottom half cohesive, and the top half cohesive. I think you can most definitely pull off this type of mismatched vibe
1c - Swap the tennies with tall flat boots, probably something in a more casual style.

** Shirt tweaks **
2a - Swap the top with a gray tee or sweater. This will make the blazer the only dressy piece and give the tennis shoes more balance. With the silk top, the shoes OR the top is a bit out of place.
2b - Swap the top with a cream, white, gray, or black button-up shirt. It'll add to the tomboy vibe of the shorts.

** Shorts tweaks **
3a - Wear baggier denim shorts! Looks cheekier
3b - Swap the denim shorts for wool shorts or silky shorts. These types of shorts look super with dark tights.

Thanks Aida! Very helpful suggestions and I also understand why it'll work with the tweaks you suggest. I was thinking along your likes, but having you write it down makes it even more clear

The only flat shoes for spring/summer/autumn I have are sneakers and ballerina, so there I have wardrobe hole. Since I every now and then need flat shoes that are a bit dressier, I've been wanting biker boots for a while but have not found any that I like and that is within my budget. I will definitely keep looking!

I'm also looking for some more tops... I don't like the tee's I got (all are wrong fit and at least 5 years old). I'd like a skimming shirt, but they all have too long backs and too slim waists. No petite sizes here.

What is the difference between a button up and a button down? Is a button up more casual?

PS Not sure I'll be able to reply fast because I have internet problems

A lot of the links I saw with tights had heels but you could look. I googled Kate Moss shorts & flats because she wears a lot of shorts & flats.

A pair of leather lace up shoes would look so cute and be a nice "bridge" show between sneakers and ballet flats.
I agree that the shorts should be more tailored in a more "serious" fabric.
