WIW running late to the colour blocking party

I was given a gift card for Christmas and used it to buy a skirt and some pants. These are the pants-they are very drapey and comfy. I bat for Team Low Contrast, so this is a bit of a stretch for me, although they are both fairly muted tones.

I wore the scarf because crew necks are not the best look for me, but I am worried that it looks a bit fussy, especially with the earrings. Opinions, please?

I have added a photo of the earrings because they don't show up well in the first photo. Thanks for your advice.

I think the ruffle on the top is throwing me off. Also, I think it's too fitted. Do you have a drapy top that you could tuck in, maybe?

I like the fashion forward slouchiness of the pants and I think they are very cute with the shoes. The earrings are pretty on you and I don't think they are too fussy.

I think you just need to work on the top...

If these were mine I would wear a white ribbed tank and my cropped denim jacket...just my two cents.

I agree with Jenava about the top; love the pants! The color combo is gorgeous, but I think the pants want to be paired with something less fitted--a looser, cropped sweater, for example, or something slim paired with something structured/boxy over the top (like her example of a tank with a denim jacket).

Thankyou, Jenava and Jonesy. Unfortunately, I often get sucked in by colours and end up with silhouettes that don't really work. I didn't feel quite 'right' with that outfit, but couldn't put my finger on why. I appreciate the ideas and I will play a bit more with what's in my closet.

Love the earrings and the pants look great. If you like the top do you have a topper of some sort to try on with it?

The pants look great but I agree the top isn't quite right with the pants. I particularly like Jonseys suggestion of a cropped top, otherwise a fitted top tucked should create a great silhouette for you. As an aside the color of the top is lovely.

These are all fabulous pieces Sharon - just not necessarily together. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pants with the sandals but agree that it's the top throwing off the proportions. The others have made wonderful suggestions for you to consider. Those earrings are stunning BTW!

Thanks everyone! I have given it another try with a looser shirt. I have to say it does feel more "me", although I'm not sure about showing the waistband on the pants. What do you think? Any better?

Hello! How are you? Hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas! Have you gone crazy at the post-christmas sales?

I really love the colours in your outift and am glad that you are playing around with the look a little more. Personally, knowing nothing, but certainly having an opinion ;-), I like the last look featured in #3 over look #1, as it feels more classic in style and appear less "fussy" (for lack of a better word). I think you'll definitely come up with something that feels just right.

I do have to mention that the big thing I really noticed in your first photo were your shoes! They are fabulous. Where did you get them from?

Hey, KP, great to see you! Haven't gone too crazy, although with all the discounts it seems almost rude not to.
The shoes are from Joanne Mercer. They had them in several colours including blue and yellow and I'm pretty sure they are currently marked down. I wear them almost every day and they are very comfortable, so I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for sandals.

I do like the 3rd look more than the previous ones. Seems more luxe that way too. I don't mind the waistband being exposed, but if it bugs you, you could try a belt in a matching tone?

I vote yay for look 3. The strings might take time for you to decide on....so enjoy that great new look and decide if you can or should shorten them later.

I know what you mean about the exposed waistband. Is there enough length from the top to blouse it over the waistband?

Honestly though, it looks fine with the waistband showing. I really like the 2nd top! Also, I wonder what this would look like with a jacket vs. the cardigan?

To me these pants need tucked tops to show off the pleats (or possible a very loose tunic top). I like #3, and think #2 would look good tucked.
