Amazing adaptation of a terrific piece of inspiration! I've watched just a few of the Outlander episodes -- and liked and disliked the same elements as you have discussed here. I think you've also managed to pull off a very cohesive and practical look, despite the number of details you have going, and the overall effect seems very natural on you. I think you might find some more inspiration from the show -- particularly for the winter months!

The outfit looks amazing on you. Love the pattern and shape of the skirt. I am now very intrigued about the book series and the show. I have never heard of it before but after finishing Goldfinch, I was wondering what to read next. The only thing I could find in my local library was a novel named Outlander written by Diana Gabaldon. Is it the same? I don't think they have the whole series though.

Great outfit!
Just like with the books, I completely lose interest after the first installment.
(But tell me that slow burn building up to Claire's wedding night with Jamie isn't just the sexiest thing ever. I thought the film adaptation was brilliant in capturing how conflicted but attracted they both feel toward the other.)

Thanks Sara! I definitely felt like me, not like a costume. The TV series so far is quite generous to Frank!

Aww: thank you Viva! As I mentioned further up, these are really adventure stories as much as romance ones. I’m more into the TV show than the books though, which almost never happens (confirmed bookworm here)!

Thnx Beth Ann! And I’m glad you felt I talked about Outlander fairly. I definitely think this inspiration will come out frequently in my fall/winter dressing. And so far here, spring’s been more wintry than anything, so I might be able to sneak in a few more outfits before it warms up.

Thank you Mona. Yep, Diana Gabaldon is the author & Outlander is the first in the series. From what I recall, the first book has a fairly cliffhanger-esque ending, so you might want to make sure you can get your hands on the second somehow before committing.

Her writing isn’t like Donna Tart’s though! I’d be happy to recommend some books for your reading list if you tell me some of your favourite books/authors (reader advisory is a hobby of mine, hehe).

Thimblelina, do you mean you only liked the first episode of the show? Or just that you’ll only enjoy it as long as they stick with the first book. I’m very curious to see what they’re going to do about the later books, without giving anything spoiler-y away, it seems like it’d be a bit of a challenge for a TV show. But I browsed that costume designer blog I linked to & it sounds like they’re going to France in season 2! So that should be fun.

I agree that the TV adaptation has done a great job portraying the complexities of their relationship. The scenes were a bit *too* explicit for my tastes, but both actors are very attractive for sure! And I liked how they showed the emotional intimacy too, in glances.

I love your outfit. But I am a plaid lover so maybe I am suspicious.
About the books...I read the book before I started watching the show. I am usually very character driven and both Claire and Jammie are rich , believable ,and enjoyable characters. Sometimes we tend to judge historical personages by modern standards ( and Claire does it by 40's standards) but Jamie is pretty progressive for his time.
Did Black Jack have to be so rotten ? Probably not. But I do find interesting the tormented relationship of love/hate with Jamie.
Does the tv show have to be so explicit? Honestly I shudder just thinking how certain latter scenes are going to be portrayed.
But it has been a fair adaptation of the book.
I recommend Agent Carter. The aesthetics of it is beautiful imo , Carter is a smart and accomplished woman and the episodes are enjoyable.

Thanks Celia! I agree that Claire & Jaimie are very enjoyable, and that Jamie is very progressive for the 18th century. I think the show makes that clear, in how much he stands out from the rest of the Highlanders group!

And I'll definitely add Agent Carter to my watch list.

I love your fichu-layering (always have), also the scarf/hood combo. How did you wrap it? (And previous outfit: what a gorgeous swan sweater + colour, and I love the combo of updo + sweater neckline.)
