I'm not entirely sure why linen is always suggested. I much prefer a cotton voile... it has to be that really really light, translucent cotton.

I think that you are absolutely right in your conclusion regarding clothing on long trips with a lot of variation. It becomes difficult.

That boat photo on the water is stunning! Thanks for sharing. I think the travel magic clothes is a great idea. Not sure how I would handle a super small wardrobe though. I have found when traveling, the plainer the outfit the better, just because the less the print, the more you notice the surroundings in the photos. I think you did great on your trip. Going from a very large to very small wardrobe is not easy! Especially when you haven't traveled to these areas before and the climate is so different. Nice job!
