Angie and everyone else, thanks - this really is the ULTIMATE RATE look! It was advised to dress in close fitting items that would stay on when wet and heavy, so I wore ski tights with shorts over, both tied tightly at the waist. Sneakers also tightly tied also so as to not come off in mud pits. I thought we'd be cold but it was actually warm by the time my wave started at noon, and the mud obstacles were all toward the end, thankfully.
I'd read reviews that this particular race could be somewhat rude and disorganized, but that did not prove to be the case here. People are very polite and supportive. 7000 people showed up! Some people panicked on a couple of obstacles (25 foot free climbing up a wall and down the other side!) and others helped them (instead of pushing them off as I've heard happened elsewhere). The only disappointment is that it is a for-profit so none of the huge amount they made goes back to our community.
I will definitely do another one of these events! I also rediscovered how much I truly love being active and dirty outside and feel most like myself then. Must find a way to incorporate more of this into my life again - maybe this is why I am feeling so bleh?
