WIW: More Denim @ Work

Hi Ladies,

Not happy with this outfit but thought I would post anyway. I think I know what to do to tweak it. I think this would have looked better with a skinny leg and heels. This looks too dowdy to me with the flats and straight leg pants.

Your suggestions for improvement would be much appreciated. I think I just ran out of inspiration this morning:)

No, no no! Not dowdy at all! Very cool! Perfect leg width. Too skinny and you get a totally different style. Plus this awesome jacket/long shirt would then swamp you, I think. The straight pant legs balance it. The very cool flats here give it a trendy, artsy side which says comfortable yet chic. I love the white accessories, these are perfect with your blond hair. The necklace length is also perfect.

I don't see dowdy either. I think the shoes, which I suspect look terrific in real life, photograph a bit like slippers in this shot and that might be bothering you. I love the white accents with dark denim.

I agree that the trousers look fine and that the flats look a bit tired in this shot ( but knowing you, looked fab in RL)

I agree with the others --- no dowdy visible from here! I actually feel like these are pretty balanced proportions. But then I personally don't always like an extreme contrast of volume between top and bottom.

Love the top half, but I agree with your self assessment that slimmer bottoms and heels would improve the look overall. You still look glamorous and not dowdy. I have warmed to the denim topper.

Think you look beautiful, but I do feel like with a long wide pant, at least a slight heel is more flattering. Anyway, no need to hide on your office today -- it is very nice as is!

The long denim jacket is lovely on you Deborah - what a great piece! I don't think this is dowdy at all, but do agree that maybe a bit of a heel could be helpful.

I too don't see dowdy but know what you mean as I tend to feel dowdy in anything straight-legged with flats. But I think this one and your red skinny one from the other day are outstanding!

I don't think you look dowdy at all, although it would be interesting to try with a narrower bottom (skinnies) or with heels with the wider legs. But you look very polished and fab.

Dowdy? No way! You look stunning, as always. But perhaps this outfit feels more like an "entertaining at home" type outfit. Relaxed, very slightly bohemian (going on ManidipaM's amazing essay on bohemianism in Astrid's thread). Perhaps for work you would like the extra presence heels might lend.

You know Deborah, I have given up trying to wear my straight legs with flats. I would suggest a bit of heel here, like a heeled bootie. Slim bottoms would also work, but give a different vibe.

I think you could wear this either way! Your hair looks so glamorous and the ivory colored necklace picks up its light tones beautifully. And is that a DRESS you're wearing as a jacket? I get such good ideas from you Deborah! You are one fab woman!

My thought was also about the shoes - I think any shoe, flat or heel, that shows more of your foot rather than being high vamped would help. The rest of the outfit is very covered and flowy, and that might give it a good contrast. I actually really like the overdress/overjacket on you.

Sorry I didn't come back to this sooner to say thank you.

I think Lantana hit the nail on the head...I was in a bit of a flat mood and that may have had an impact.

Anne and Laura the shoes are quite new and have a t bar which I removed at the end of the day!! I think they look better without it and I will wear them more.

I will be trying this again but with heels and a skinny leg pant. I was actually ready to give the denim topper away but will persevere. Oh and maybe a touch of color would improve this too.
