WIW: Late spring - YouLookFab Forum

I go through phases but when life gets hectic, I rely a lot on black. It’s a great fall back color for me because it goes with everything and requires very little thought. I should probably just adopt it as a uniform and stop fussing with brights and patterns...but where’s the fun in that?! Today’s rainy day outfit going to take DDs senior prom photos plus a bunch of work outfits. Thanks for looking!
#1 features the spiegel lemming jacket if any of you remember that forum classic! Ha!

ETA: Links. I duplicated the caramel colored Fryes in smoke which is actually a dark charcoal. I am trying to avoid solid black footwear. The dress in 5 are the moto inspired Fryes in the second find. The shorter the dress, the longer the shaft is what works for me.

Kelly there is nothing wrong with wearing black when you look so good in it. However, I must admit that for me - what makes these outfits is the attention to detail you always provide. Your light coloured bag with guitar strap look so fab with the denim and black - it just adds a pop of freshness. I always marvel at your fab boot collection and how you know to pair the right boots with your skirts and dresses to get the proportions right.

You are so good at buying perfect casual yet polished clothing - the dresses in 3, 4 & 5 are exactly the sort of dresses I wish were in my wardrobe and have yet to find (or at least have them looking like that on me).

Very nice. The black works wonderful on you. With nude legs it doesn't make it too dark looking. I like 2 and 5 the best.

With your coloring, black is flattering and rich. I love how you pair it with denim and boots, but also show skin which makes it look springy. The adorable striped dress almost becomes another color with it's added lightness; so cute. And of course you look great in brights, too!

@Bijou: Thank you. You are the epitome of polish. I feel like I’ve got it down for the most part in casual work attire. It takes a lot more effort for dressy professional. You do it with the best of them. Professional with your own personal style that makes your outfits so interesting!

@Adriana: Thanks! The nude legs absolutely help with lightening up the black. I’ve been struggling with some of these dresses because of the length but found that the taller boot makes them work appropriate.

@lyn: Thank you. We had some great spring weather for a few weeks but now it’s rainy and cold again. I feel your pain!

@ChristelJ: Thank you! I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older that black isn’t as friendly unless I have something else to lighten it up. Must come with the greying of the hair and slight change in complexion.

@lisap: Thanks! Glad you like the boots. Veronicas are probably my favorite Frye style. The tall ones have been workhorses for years. I just recently acquired the caramel mid calf and wore them so much I decided to duplicate in smoke. I hardly wear anything else these days--at least with dresses.

I agree with you; there is something so calming about wearing black, and you are lucky that it happens to look not just good, but extremely flattering on you, which is rare! It makes your eyes sparkle - just like Coco Chanel, the queen of black herself. Love you in colour, but I would not hesitate to wear black when it feels good if I was you!
