WIW: How did I do?

I feel like I'm just learning to dress myself! Today's outfit for working from home and a function at kids' school tonight. It's cool now in mornings & evenings, but I think I can still get away with these open-toes shoes since they are not so summery. I am "practicing" wearing my new white button down. I've never felt comfortable in dress shirts like this but I love what other people are able to do with them. The denim jacket is also new. Any and all thoughts, recommendations, suggestions welcome!

Well, I'm a newbie here myself, but let me just say that is a very nice combination! I think it fits well, and I really like the necklace. Nice touch! Welcome!

I would also try a necklace that had either more color contrast (contrast with the colors of your outfit, I mean) or more pure white in it.

As a white-shirt convert myself: YAY! Aren't they awesome? You definitely don't look like you're starting out! This is an outfit I've wanted to try myself, once I get a super-duper cropped denim jacket (yours looks like it ends high-hip?).

Maybe one of the more senior YLFers can chime in here, but there's something about the length of the shirt and the length of the jacket together that doesn't look "right" to my eye, and I can't put my finger on it. Sorry I can't be more specific -- let me noodle on it a bit more and come back.

BTW, I love the juxtaposition of a crisp white shirt with a weathered denim jacket. Like I said -- an outfit that totally pulls at my heartstrings and one that I want to try ASAP!

We are almost outfit twins today. I am also sporting black trousers, a white top and a denim jacket, denim against black is one of my favorite looks, just lovely!

Well done, Ann! This is crisp but casual, and I love the denim-y tones in the necklace.

I think the proportions (jacket and shirt length) are working fine here. If anything, I'd try folding back the cuffs of the shirt over the jacket and scrunching sleeves. I believe that Angie has a "tutorial" in the archives, and Rae posted her version a couple of months ago, as well.

You look terrific, and you nailed the fit of your garments perfectly, which is so key to looking and feeling fab!

I really like that shirt/denim jacket combo on you! The necklace is perfect too. I think I would experiment with the shoes a little, but the ones you have are perfectly all right, too.

I think this works really well. The proportions are just right. I might add that you have gorgeous long legs!

Hi Ann - Great outfit! I'm a newbie, too, and I'm in New England (I live outside of Boston). I've been lurking for some time, but I've only recently gotten active in the forums. My denim jacket is one of my favorite pieces, and I think it was probably the first item of clothing I bought after I found YLF. I'm also a recent convert to white button downs, and I've discovered that I really like the look. I haven't graduated to tucking them in yet, but maybe soon I'll try the semi-tuck. I love your necklace; that just makes your outfit!

Nope, still can't figure it out. I think maybe my eye is not used to the high contrast from jacket to shirt to pants. Not to imply it looks bad, just that my eye needs some honing!

Regardless, I like this outfit a lot and want to copy it!

Charmian, thanks for trying to express it. I was thinking that maybe the proportions were off from the ideal -- I'm sure there's some mathematical formula that we could apply to figure it out. However, I'm not going to sweat it. It is unlikely that I will be standing still in a pose while wearing this, so I doubt anyone will notice.
