You look fab! I like this outfit a lot. I do not understand much in all these descriptors in fact I do not even know how to describe my style (in my profile I threw in modern classic just because). But I would wear this outfit in a heartbeat - does that mean there is some Tomgirl in me? Thanks Star, you helped me to add a piece to the puzzle (I think I am actually a mix of various styles).

JenniNz Thank you! The texture of the top helps as well with a feminine element. You cannot see it in the pic but it is a fine crochet knit (not a regular tee). The black and white stripes around my hips is the cami showing (intentionally - for practical (to cover my tum), and for added interest). I usually always wear a cami in this way.

Bijou thank you! Your approval means a lot. The walk was perfect. We are having two days of 26 degrees C here on the Black Sea and then cooler weather will be settling in.

Sisi I can relate. I have various styles going on too and that is why I could not successfully pin it down, and erroneously added Classic. The exercise I just did has really helped. I can see that many of my clothes fit into this descriptor, as well as the way I wear them/put them together in outfit. Also explains why I sometimes raid DH's wardrobe!
From the occasional WIW of yours that I have seen I do believe you have a masculine/feminine juxtaposition going on too. So High Five fellow Tomgirl.

I'd say this outfit suits your new descriptor. Pants are a bit edgy, love the contrast stitching on them and the sandals, jewelry and top add the softer refinement. It all works really well together.

Thanks Dee for the feedback. I just figured how to tie these parachute pants to my liking today. In Spring I wore them loosely tied and they looked quite shapeless. I much prefer them tight on my ankles. I think I saw Janet in a pair and the penny dropped (in other words I got it :)).

I think you nailed the grownup tomgirl look.

The contrast stitching on those pants is really fun and they look comfortable and stylish. The pairing of black and darker blues gives that same vibe as your Pinterest board from your recent thread. The showing of skin with a sleeveless top and sandals lightens the look for a beach walk. Clever layering with the striped tank, and the jewelry is a nice finishing touch. Great job!

I think the description is apt! And those pants are really cool. Kudos for wearing a real outfit for your walk — I throw on my gear and don’t look nearly so cute, LOL! I had my parachute-y joggers narrowed a little in the leg because they seemed so wide and flappy, and they work better now. I also like the legs cinched.

Thank you Lisa! A while ago I thought I wanted to phase out black and replace it with navy. So I picked up quite a few dark blue items. Turns out I don't want to phase out black LOL but fortunately I really like the two together. I think you are contemplating the same, yes?

Thanks Janet. In all honesty my morning walk is more of an urban stroll than a hike. Our town is a peninsula in the Black Sea and we walk on the cement walkway that goes all the way around. Although other people do wear gear. I was thinking of donating these trousers as I was not happy with the shape, but the tighter cinching has made all the difference, so thanks!

I am hopeless with descriptors but Tomgirl has a light-hearted sound that seems to suit you. So happy you kept the pants. They look so good with that top and sandals, too. You inspire me to try for a nicer walking outfit today.

Thank you ChristelJ! I am happy to have inspired you. I am going with Tomgirl because I tend to wear more masculine items but always with a feminine element (includes my hair) and a bit of polish (never without some lippie). I will also add other style elements into the mix sometimes, like sporty, or edgy, etc, depending on my mood of the day. Tomgirl is the base. Today was Nautical Tomgirl Same trousers with and navy/white striped Tee.

Star - Yes, I am thinking of phasing out black in my wardrobe for navy. I feel drained when I wear black compared to navy, especially when it's near my face. That's interesting that you started doing so then back tracked. What made you decide to keep black in?

And I too like black and navy paired together, it's a dark head to toe look with a slight twist because of the addition of navy.

I went back and read your thread about looking for style descriptors, but didn't comment. Interesting, and I do like Grownup Tomgirl for you. There is a rough-and-tumble element that shines through in the looks on your inspiration board. I think Tomgirl also gets at the outdoorsy vibe I get from your style and your inspo pics, too.

I really like this outfit and see it as reflecting your descriptor. The layers and the topstitched elements on the pants, along with your jewelry, add a lot of interest. You might wear a lot of solid colors, but your style is far from plain. You mix layers and textures so artfully, yet with an effortless look.

Lisa black and navy is a bit of story. When I was growing out my natural silver hair in 2021 I envisaged navy with pastels lilac/green/blues looking so fab. In reality I look super washed out in pastels. I need contrast, contrary to what so many say and is for so many, black makes me look more alive. Now that I toned my hair a coppery blonde the black still really works. When I wear black I get compliments. So I will keep black and navy as my dark neutrals.

Star - Thanks for the explanation! I find black an interesting neutral, on some people it looks stellar and others it’s not. You make a great point about contrast. That is probably why black is not as universally flattering despite what many fashion articles suggest.

Thinking about contrast is something else for me to consider as I shift my wardrobe. Thanks for the idea and for sharing your experience with navy and black!
