WIW: EUC (& proof not everyone here is edgy!)

One of my goals is to wear pants (rather than jeans) more often.
These are grey Sloan Fit & Flare from BR.

Earthy: Soft colors (greys, greens)
Urban: Boots (I wear boots almost exclusively!) These are grey Frye boots, 3" heel.
Chic: um... er... lacking! The sweater is cashmere (Halogen) but doesn't look very chic. I put on the scarf in #2 to try to add interest while still keeping it restrained.

Hmmm ... maybe "restrained" is an important descriptor for my style?

This feels ... okay. I think it needs more chic! How can I make that happen?

Tarzy, you look great! I like that little bit of bang on your forehead. I love "restrained" as a descriptor (it's one I've been toying with) and I think sometimes it's an element of *chic* to be a bit plain and restrained. This outfit is beautiful in it's fit, simplicity and proportions. I wouldn't add anything or take anything away.

Do you ever layer a scarf over a necklace so that if you get warm and have to take the scarf off, there is something underneath to look at? I've thought of it, but I'm worried about snagging my scarves. Just curious. Lurve the cashmere. It's very luxe in an understated way.

What is not chic about this look? It's refined, polished, flattering, interesting. You could also move away from the Euro knot and tie it "infinity style". See pic. That will add a little more fashion into the equation.

You look great!

I understand the problem, though. This is more or less what I often wear, and I end up feeling boring.

A couple of potential solutions:

1. Vary the cuts. A different silhouette will perhaps make it feel more current. E.g. A pair of slouchier trousers, or an oversized sweater.

2. Buy a fun belt and do a semi-tuck with this sweater. Especially a patterned or studded belt.

3. Tie the scarf in a new way.

4. Patterned or coloured footwear.

This is the epitome of modern and chic, IMHO. I love it. Fit is impeccable and proportions are spot on. LOVE it. I like Angie's idea about the scarf to change things up. I wouldn't mind looking this good on a daily basis!

I often wonder the same thing since this outfit is so similar to something that I might wear. What I've started to think is that it's the smaller details that become hugely important in a restrained look. The style of the boot, the watch, the glasses, and the hair really are what takes the look from OK into chic or sophisticated. Every detail really counts when you pare down color, pattern, and shape. Really, I'm beginning to think that achieving a 10 in a restrained look is one of those styles that looks deceptively easy but is really demanding to execute.

For what it's worth, I think this outfit is pretty high up on the scale as a restrained outfit. I'm interested in hearing others' suggestions that don't involve moving the outfit away from the restrained vibe you've established.

So, I would totally wear this whole look to work, if I didn't have the pants dragging in dirty snow issue. I think it's a universal outfit that could be worn across all styles with only slight tweaks.

Actually, I'm really into "Restrained." It makes a lot of sense to me. I'd be tempted to throw out Earthy and replace it with Restrained.

More chic? Hmm. I think the look is very chic with the pendant. The scarf... I think going deeper in color would maybe up the chic factor. Black, a deeper forest green...

I understand what you are saying about the way you feel about this look. I love this look on you & others but if I wore it I would feel the same. For me a jacket would make all the difference. Something in the same tones but with a little texture?

I think Gaylene's point about quality is spot on too.

You look like a chic urban woman dressed for the weekend at her vacation home --- As someone who loves color and fights the urge to use all the colors in the crayon box at once, I love the peacefulness or earthy colors and cozy textures.

P.S. I love wearing a pendant under my scarf, particularly since I run warm and I sometimes end up taking the scarf off.

Plus, are you wearing your white/chalk leather jacket a lot? I have found mine extremely comfortable and easy to wear -- at least until winter overcoat weather hit. . .
