WIW: dorky in harem pants

So in my head this outfit looked better than in the camera! Proportions look kind of dorky... Maybe it's a combo of the high waist, dropped crotch, calf length harem pants and the booties? The tee?

Anyhow it was all quite comfy Please send suggestions for improvement!

I see no dork here. Maybe the camera angle is making the outfit proportions different than you saw it in the mirror? Those pants remind me of the outfit Angie wore in Las Vegas.

Things are a bit dark on my monitor but I think it can work. It's true that when you have a pant ending on the calf and a bootie that comes up the ankle there'll be the leg bit thing--sort of like whether you like the look of booties with midi skirts and bare legs. Also, you may be hoping to see a longer line--2/3 top and 1/3 below--so one thing I tried was more monochrome look. The white T tucked in is breaking that up.
I would play with some different colors, tops/toppers. Try dark T and pants + light cropped topper (or something resembling); try darker but not black everything--maybe dark red or blue top. Try a shoe that shoes some top of your foot. That sort of thing, and see what you think.

I think the proportions works between the pants and the toppers. It is a very cool look, would like to see a clearer image of your jacket. I think I would change out the booties to something that elongates the leg a bit more, adding some ankle exposure. Tough in winter I know. I'm still wearing winter boots!

Dorky is a strong word. I would love to see this styled with shoes or sandals, agree with others about the booties kind of shortening yuor leg line. I really like the necklace though. Is that the moto that Una has too?

Claire -- now that you mention it...I've actually tried to duplicate that outfit with my harem pants awhile back. Totally forgot about it. I wonder if I can dig up the photo somewhere. Anyhow, thanks for the reassurance of non-dorkiness

unfrumped -- I bumped up the brightness a bit; not sure if it helps. Thanks for your ideas! I'll think more on that. My goal for this outfit was to wear the Ella Moss jacket with the pants, somehow...

Tina -- Thanks! The jacket is the tie-dye Ella Moss one. The ankle exposure is a good tip -- the outfit would probably work better with my black wedge platforms...hm!

Nicole -- Yes, it's the same one that Rae, Una, and Aida (and maybe Ceit?) has. I could try my pewter gladiator flat sandals, but I wonder about seasonal confusion. Need to look through my shoes some more!

I like it. Perhaps a less contrast-y shoe would help elongate the leg line. I think it's quite fun though as is! I wouldn't call this dorky at all.

It's the footwear PLUS the high contrast top that is throwing off the outfit. Substitute with a low contrast top and keep the booties. OR, keep the top and add low contrast (to your skin) footwear.
