WIW: Date Night w/ spouse - Esperanza Spalding concert

Ooo, cutie! I love the hair with the jacket - I think it's a nice combination of kind of natural and structure, plus the color of the jacket is nice with your skin. Love the colors and shape of the blouse, and I like how the necklace works with the blouse...and you ROCK a straight-leg jean! IMO the shoes could maybe be a color from the blouse or something, but they work as is as well.

In person, The color of the shoes is just a shade darker than the jacket and the same as one of the colors in the top, so I thought they might work to "bookend" my top half. I decided later that they contrast too much with the dark jeans, but by then it was too late to change. I have the same shoes in dark brown, and I have fuchsia ballet flats that could pick up the pink dots in the top. Might either of those work better? I have fussy feet, plus knee and ankle problems, so I don't own many pairs of non-orthopedic shoes!

Have to disagree with you I think the shoes you chose to wear work well with both the jacket & blouse that you are wearing & bookend perfectly.

I LOVE the shoes and the contrast they create with the jeans. I think they work because the outfit is mainly neutrals so you are playing with tones and textures, and light and dark. You look great in this!

Jayne, I have the same shoes in brown and those are a little pinchy at the toes but not too bad. They were otherwise comfortable so I ordered the tan pair in wide width even though I don't usually need a wide shoe. That solved the pinching completely, and the adjustable strap means they stay on my feet despite the extra width. They're as comfy as heels get for me! I also added a nonslip outsole because the soles were so slippery I could barely stay upright the first time I wore them. They're great now!

The show was great! Esperanza is amazingly talented and her stage persona is utterly charming. I think my husband has a huge crush on her now. She sang and played stand-up bass and electric bass, accompanied by a 10-piece jazz band. Every single one of the performers was amazing, but she commanded the stage.

We had 2nd-row center seats so we could see her perfectly. She looked girlishly fabulous in a knee-length black and gray dress with a fitted high necked bodice and a circle skirt. The fabric of the dress looked like it was printed from a giant black and white photo of a pair of white swans. Hard to describe, but really lovely on her and suited her quirky personality. I've been searching unsuccessfully for a good photo of her in the dress, or of just the dress. She wore flat ribbon-laced gray oxfords, and her only accessories were a sparkly oversized neckpiece in the shape of a Peter Pan collar and her amazing wild hair. She's 27, but so small and almost frail that she looked about 19!

It was a great combination of glam and casual and arty. Somebody who would be flattered by that dress needs to copy that look ASAP! I think I'll try to do a "What Esperanza Wore" post with pics of these items later, but right now I have to get back to work.

I love your entire look (and can't beat a sassy attitude!) and it seems spot on for the show.
I would imagine you saw lots of cool styles in the audience too.
Your shoes look fantastic with the outfit and a nice little heel is fun for a date night.
