WIW casual tweed. Not feeling it

I'm testing this outfit for the first time. Off to casual day at work now. Not sure I hit the nail.

I'm ok with the darker colours for summer, but will probably wear a crisper or brighter outfit tomorrow. I feel like today's outfit is very neutral. What do you think?

Summer tweed jacket
Navy silk tee w peter pan collar
Crop jeans (thrifted)
Socks with circle cut-outs (Wolford)
Midnight blue oxfords
Cognac belt (vintage)
Caramel leather bag (vintage)

ETA: I was trying to channel #4, but I feel like something in my outfit is a bit off. Can you help me analyze?

Um, you're a non-model and not standing against a freakishly white wall? Nothing wrong with the outfit. You could try it without the socks though and see if you like it better?

Really nice jacket! However, I would suggest a black (or black & white) bag and ditto belt. (The brown items are stealing some attention from the jacket, which is supposed to be the hero of this outfit.)

I think you look great. I would try it without the socks. Can you go bare? Also, a darker bag or a coloured (non-neutral) bag (eg red) might be better with the belt.

The Cat, I get what you're saying. I've removed the socks. They may be better with my wide leg trousers and a simple top.
Brooklyn, I'll change the bag when I have to drop by at home before going to another appointment today.

Did you 'really get what I was saying'? I wonder, because I didn't say anything about the socks, and I actually thought they were OK. I commented the bag and the belt.

The Cat, I interpreted your reply to mean that the jacket was the statement piece that was better without distractions. I'll try to fade down the distractions (socks and bag) by taking off the socks and changing the bag. Maybe I misinterpreted your reply?

ETA: Aha, you mentioned belt, not socks. So sorry for reading your reply too hastily.

I think it's not feeling quite summery because the sleeves are a bit long. On the model they're 'bracelet' length. But it's cute!

rachylou, I didn't notice until you mentioned it. I do have short arms! Should I shorten the sleeve length? I like the shorter version.

I think this is quite nice, although not particularly summery, but my jackets are getting zero wear this summer so I have a bit of a hangup about wearing jackets in summer. I like the no-socks idea and different bag but super cute jacket and I like it with jeans.

I think you might do, shorten the sleeves. In fall/winter you can wear a close fitting long sleeve to keep the jacket in play - provided the heat is on I suspect

Very cute, but I would remove the belt and socks, untuck the top. Maybe the shoes are too heavy? I could see this as a nice fall/spring transition.

Well I really like the outfit. The difference with #4 is she's wearing the jacket solo with, pretty much, a column of color. If you match a dark belt to you jeans or top, add a high shaft dark bootie (better for fall, I know, but I'm just addressing the look) and add a dark bag, then the jacket becomes the focus of the entire outfit. I actually think the socks are cute but since they compete with the jacket for attention, I would match bag and belt if you were wearing them together. I think the jacket is very flattering and, even though I can't see detail, it looks like it lights up your face. Very flattering and elegant. But this is a very ladylike look. It would be very "me" with the above changes. Is it the vibe of the jacket itself or the details of the outfit that are making your uncomfortable? Tweed can skew aging, but this is a young, hip, stylish look. I really like it, but you need to like it!!

This is a great look! I can only repeat the suggestions you've already heard...remove everything (patterned socks, belt, anything not black) that competes with that jacket. I didn't even notice the sleeve length, but rachylou is right...shorter is more summery.

But still...great look.

Thank you all for helping me break it down. I had a meeting in town after lunch and changed the bag to a black/taupe satchel. In the evening I wore a red mini bag for errands. Both felt much better than the cinnamon bag.

RobinF, thanks! I'm sure the summer here is more like spring (or even winter in Australia) in many parts of the world. Yesterday was 14C/ 57F and rain showers. Today it's about18C/64F.

gryffin, thanks for breaking it down! I'm sure you would look great in a similar outfit. Tweed jacket can difficult and I think that's why the jacket has been unworn in my closet for so long. But "young, hip, stylish look" is the best encouragement to get it into rotation. Thanks!
