WIW: casual slip skirt - YouLookFab Forum

Thanks to Runcarla for inspiring me to put my closet where my mouth is and try a casual styling of my silk satin slip skirt. Wore this for a coffee date with myself and a ramble around an adjacent neighborhood today.

Sadly the place I chose for coffee turned out to be a bit more focused on Instagram-worthy backdrops than inviting seating and my perch outside was HOT and not that comfy. Luckily the book I brought to read is absolutely gripping.

(Side note, I misremembered the color scheme of this skirt, in a post elsewhere I think I described it as having green in the print. Nope! Must have been my subconscious mind trying to justify those NAS sandals...)

Question for you all: what jewelry would you add to this outfit, keeping things casual? And what sort of bag would you carry with it?

I don’t wear jewellery myself, so no advice there - but, I do really like the outfit you put together. I especially love how the pink sneaks co-ordinate with the skirt. Definitely get this skirt into rotation!

Fantastic outfit! Although I wear a little bit of jewelry, mostly earrings, the only way I can pick it is to try it! Definitely room for a necklace, but it is up to you to see if it adds anything to the look.

This outfit totally works as a casual coffee-and-walk thing. I wonder if the pink sneakers are the magic ingredient, or if it would also work with white ones?

Since you ask, I’d probably wear an agate necklace and carry a canvas tote bag to hold my book. That’s just my habits, not necessarily a recommendation.

The dress looks coral on my monitor, so I would wear coral jewelry. I have pieces of teal red borax made into a necklace and earrings. I would wear those but any coral pieces would work. If that is not an option, use white jewelry or metallic hoops.

Indigoprint the sneakers are by a Spanish brand called Victoria. Now I'm going to check out Natural World!

Joy the skirt is more pink than coral irl but I bet coral jewelry would be nice! I have a rose-shaped coral celluloid necklace that might work well.

Since several folks mentioned the pink shoe+skirt combo I started to think maybe it would be good to get some pink up in the top part of the outfit. I have this cool old pink venetian glass bead but I never thought to string it on my short silver chain until just now!

That's such a great outfit!! Beautiful skirt, and I and a fan of the open linen shirt as a nice casual touch. I would say try your pretty pink necklace, or any delicate pink or white or silver jewelry just to add a touch of glimmer. It it were me, I would carry a big straw tote, or maybe a crossbody.
What is the full title of your book? The Munch illustration is intriguing me.

Thanks ChristelJ, these are great suggestions. And yes, that linen shirt is getting a real workout as a topper this year! Funny, it's one of those pieces that I bought because it seemed like it would be useful, then it sat unworn for a couple of years, and now I am wearing it all.the.time.

The book is Yours, Creature by Jessica Cuello -- a collection of poems about the life of Mary Shelley, written in the form of letters to her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft. Like I said -- gripping!

Been into unexpected color pairings. So consider wearing the green sandal with something else green—purse, scrunchie, green toned jewelry—with a white top.

With the current outfit, maybe a stack of fun bracelets or a choker for the 90s look

Oooh - one of my favourites yet on you! I love the paisley pattern and colours of the skirt and the pattern mix with the light stripe. Sneakers are perfect with this.

I will enable on the sandals, also. But only if they are extremely comfy.

I'm not great on jewellery but for myself, it would be earrings and maybe a ring.

Now I'm remembering that I posted an outfit with a bias cut linen skirt last year that people responded really positively to. (Found the pic!) I ended up passing on the skirt bc it was a bit big but I guess it turns out that bias cut, midi length skirt is a good look for me. Noted!
