WiW: But Why does it feel frumpy?

Help! I was super excited to wear this outfit (initially planned to be worn with a blazer - but none of my blazers really worked) - but I am not sure why, but when I put it on, it felt pretty frumpy-dumpy, and I'd like to figure out why so I don't repeat the same mistakes.

Would it be better with a different belt? I toyed with the idea when I was at work that my white leather belt would be better - it's still a solid that breaks up the pattern mix, but isn't quite so heavy.

Maybe the skirt is too long?

Unsure; but I felt definitely UnFab today, which makes me sad because I love the pieces individually!

Frump??? No idea. But tell me is it the cardigan the cause coz I see you more in blazers now a days.

I see no frump. But maybe Ramya is right and it might feel better with a blazer for more structure?

I don't think it looks frumpy but maybe if you didn't have so much black. Or black sandals to break it up? A white sweater or jacket?

Perhaps you need heels to feel less frump? (Though you don't look it!) it could possibly also be the length of the cardi--a cropped cardi might work, too.
Just guesses. I don't see frump here.

This looks fine to my eye. Maybe you're just used to the clean line of a dress and this feels ALGO? Seriously it doesn't look frumpy at all! Love the red, black and white on you.

For me, too much going on. But I'm clueless on combining patterns and you do it so well. Maybe this one you just don't like. I think sometimes we can go with the emotional decision and it doesn't have to make sense.

I don't see any frump either! But maybe something like tan shoes would make it feel different, or sandals (which I don't suppose you can wear to work).

I don't think there's too much going on and definitely don't think it's frumpy. Maybe try a different black topper? It's a cute outfit.

I like it, I was going to suggest a white blazer but remembered it'd probably be too close to a lab coat for you.

Love the pattern mixing here, don't see the frump, could you be more specific about what you see?

The look does not read frumpy, but very today with pattern mixing. If it isn't the cardi vs. blazer offering more structure possibility, I am wondering if there is something about the hand of the skirt fabric combined with its cut that doesn't feel quite right. From the photo, I can't tell if there is a bit of bagging going on in the way it hangs or not. Just mention it by way of trouble- shooting, as it is an "au current" look to my eye.

There isn't as much movement in this skirt compared to your twisty hiding pockets skirt from the other day. Or,could it be the flats? I seem to remember you wearing more heels lately.

Well, I don't personally see frump. You look cute and put-together. The only -- ONLY -- think I can think of (and this is not meant as a criticism; it's just the only association I can make) is that the outfit is vaguely reminiscent of Minnie Mouse. Vaguely. Mind you, I don't think you could accuse Minnie of being frumpy.

I don't see frump, but somehow it's not your typical look. Do you have a jeans jacket to swap out for the sweater? I also agree that a white belt will lighten the look.

I think it boils down to a few things - the skirt pulled a bit, and the top doesn't fit quite right - in combination of a cardigan when I'm used to wearing a blazer and just being stiff and sore from the gym made me an unhappy camper today.

I will not give up on this skirt though - will have to try another combination next week!

So interesting...it all comes down to fit. That is what we were saying the other day in another thread. I think this looks terrific, but "frump" obviously goes deeper than mere looks!

I don't see any frump here, but at this time of year I would swap out the black cardigan and dark shoes for lighter pieces.

I think that's a great analysis. When something doesn't fit quite right and bugs me, I definitely feel off all day.
