wiw: breaking out the boots - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all

The weather here has cooled down enough to break out the boots. It's that nice time of year when I can wear them with bare legs. Yay for that!

Outfit 1: "8" skirt from Yoox with Cue top. The skirt has a pleather panel at the front, which appeals to me. I wore my circle necklace to contrast with the angled stripes of the top and the gilet as a lightweight jacket to and from work.

Outfit 2: Country Road skirt with Veronika Maine top. I wore this to work on a casual Friday (the skirt is denim).

Outfit 3: Metalicus skirt with H&M top. I got caught in the rain while walking home, and I've been sick with a virus, so I look a bit faded here.

Outfit 4: Alice+Olivia skirt with Veronika Maine top. I didn't actually wear the jacket and cardigan in the last photo (still too warm). But I was testing out how I might layer the outfit for a work trip next month, so I thought I would include a photo.

fab...i'm loving the tall boots with the skirts. is the a transition look or will you add tights/pantyhose for true winter?

Kkards, it's more a transition look. I tend to wear the taupe boots in Autumn and Spring because they are lighter and I like them with a bare leg (or nude hose if I must). In Winter I wear opaque tights a lot so then I tend to wear black and dark brown boots more often.

Well we are in Autumn, so definitely time to bring out the boots with bare legs. The outfits are amazing Brooklyn and so true to your style. I love your skirt collection and so nice to see your chevron top too. This is a very inspiring post.

Yay! Skirts with boots and bare legs are the best. (If only the weather thought so too!). I love all of these but my favorite is #1. The gilet with the skirt is so awesome.

Amazing set of fall looks! I am taking notes. I love the taupe boots as they seem to blend with your hair color. Tall boots are looking fresh . I like the first outfit and the third best but they are all wonderful.

Thanks Smittie. I am so glad you think I have a signature style! That is my style goal for 2017. I have experimented with quite a few looks, maybe more so since joining the forum, and this year I want to limit experimentation and focus on working with elements that are tried and tested for me. And thanks for the comment about my handbags. I have quite a nice collection care of my husband. He always needs help with birthday, anniversary and Xmas gifts ideas, so I give him big hints.
Thanks Sisi. I was lucky with the teal top. It sold out a couple of days after I bought it (I was thinking about getting another colour). Our Autumn officially starts on 1 March (Spring on 1 September). But it usually stays pretty warm here well into April. March has been very wet this year, so that has brought the temperatures down a lot. Still in the mid 20s generally.

They all look amazing, my fave item of clothing is the black lacy geometric pencil skirt in the last outfit.
Isn't it a bit odd that the Southern Hemisphere seasons ( certainly for Australia and NZ) start on the 1st of the month, whereas in the Northern Hemisphere they seem to wait for the solstices on the 21st? I wonder who decided that, and when? Ours feel easier to me! Just what I'm used to.

Like smittie, I really admire your signature style, Brooklyn. So much so that every time I see groupings of your pictures I wish I could dress like this. Silly, because your style is so you.

That said. my favorite is outfit 1 and I think I could replicate that in a way. I love the shape of the top (stripes and a t-shirt shape - what is not to love?) -- and I think this is my absolute favorite image of a gilet ever. Quite inspiring.

Thanks Jenn and Viva. Looks like it's outfit number one for the win. The gilet is perfect as a light topper for this time of year. Last year I treated it more as a winter item. So it's boots, bare legs AND gilet time. And Viva, what's this about bringing tall boots back? Where did they go?
