WIW: back to skinnies and boots (and keep or toss this tunic?)

Well, the frigid temps and impending snow are back so no bootcuts and skirts for me this week. It was fun to wear all my non-skinny silhouettes last week though.

I have been thinking about purging this tunic (which is really a ridiculously short dress), but I thought I'd have one last go at styling it first. What do you think? I do not like it at all (hate this particular sleeve length and it's too clingy for my taste) without a topper, but I included a photo without the blazer just so you guys could see what it looks like. It's a bit difficult to style. I tried a more fitted, cropped blazer and it was too bombshelly for me, so I think I'd only wear it with more oversized toppers. Do you think the asymmetrical neckline works with a jacket at all though? And is the exposed zipper dated?

I'm not really sure about the material either. It's not a true thick velvet, more like a velour with a bit more texture than most velours. I'm not sure this particular texture is all that flattering, and it also seems to bunch up and highlight muffin top, etc. What do you guys think of velour? Frumpy dumpy or soft and luxe? I have to admit that my first association is tracksuits (either those hoochie Juicy ones or the old lady ones).

I don't think this tunic does anythng to flatter you, so my vote is to go! looks better with the jacket but you shouldn't have to wear a jacket for it to take up space in your closet... Love the boots!!!! And the color of that jacket is Fabulous!!!!

I actually prefer it without the jacket as you can better appreciate the details -- asymmetry and zipper accent. Do you have a more avant-garde or artsy topper to try with this? Or perhaps a leather jacket? I know what you mean about the negative associations related to velour, but your tunic reads more "velvet" than velour from what I can see in the pics.

Hmm, I guess i could try my draped mixed media cardigan, but I think the arms on that might be too slim to go nicely over the sleeves of the tunic. I can't do indoor leather jackets (unless I happen to find that elusive knit sleeved version) so that is out.

Hmm, I like the textures and colors of the outfit. However, the neckline looks strange under the blazer. It looks a bit like it's off center and you need to straighten it out. I think the tunic should probably go since you have so many reservations about it. Fashion shouldn't be so difficult.

Yeah, I think it looks OK under the blazer, but I also see the neckline oddness that Sara mentions. I think if you've fallen hard out of love with it, it's time for it to go. That blazer is beautiful on you though!

Yep… I know what you mean about not doing "indoor leather". (Can't do it myself.) Hmmm… what if you removed the sleeves? Could that give it more versatility? Perhaps it is just not worth the effort if you are not loving' it. Might be time to pass it on.

Would the tunic work on its own with a thin turtleneck or t under it? Would it make good loungewear?

I love the tunic. But you have to wear it and love it too. So pass it on and shop your closet for more fab stuff.

I like Jill G's suggestion. I don't dislike this piece on you, it works with the boots quite well. If your option is to wear it with a jacket, that's difficult due to the neckline. Try something underneath like a crew neck top or turtleneck, if that still doesn't work, move on.

The dress makes me think it was intended to be worn as a body con statement dress that is edgy (asymmetrical, zippers). Which best works solo. It's quite sexy if you have any club wear occasions you could try it like that, on its own.

Jill and Denise, I don't wear turtlenecks or even very high crew necks. Hate the feeling of strangulation, plus my neck is short to begin with. Lower necklines look funny underneath.

Denise, I definitely have no club wear occasions. In fact, I go out of my way to avoid those events, LOL. The other problem about wearing this as a dress is that it tends to ride up a bit when walking around, so I'd always be tugging on it.

Sarah and Janet, I think you've corroborated my feeling about the neckline looking funny/unintentionally crooked with a jacket.
